THE TINA ADAIR BAND (Tim Dishman, Justin Carbone & Sim Daley)
After being off the road for over three years, Tina Adair is ready for her fans to hear the new sound she has put together. This new sound and configuration will be called (none other than), “The Tina Adair Band.” The band features Tim Dishman (bass, vocals), Justin Carbone (guitar, vocals), Sim Daley (banjo) and Tina (mandolin, vocals). Tina is very excited about the new material that will be at the hands of the public audience very soon!
TINA ADAIR
Tina Adair began singing at the age of three. And ever since that first time on stage (age 3), she knew that’s what she wanted to do! And she has kept that goal since she can remember. At the age of five, she received her first guitar. Her mom, Debra, showed her three chords and she went from there. Since then, Tina has self-taught herself on a number of instruments including banjo, fiddle, bass, piano and of course her favorite, the mandolin. She has been playing mandolin since she was 14 years old. By lots of practice, listening and learning, Tina began to play the mandolin in her family band, then called “Bluegrass Edition.” By 1996, “Bluegrass Edition” had been receiving a lot of attention in the industry.
In October of 1996, the band won the “International Pizza Hut Showdown” in Owensboro, KY. One month later and a band name change, “Tina Adair and the Adairs” were signed to the Sugar Hill record label. Tina’s first album on Sugar Hill, Just You Wait & See, was released in September of 1997. This project featured musicians such as Chris Thile, Bryan Sutton, Aubrey Haynie, Viktor Krauss, Charlie Cushman, Keith Little, and Alan O’Bryant. The project was produced by Jerry Douglas and engineered by Bil Vorndick. This was an amazing experience for Tina.
However, after a great run with Sugar Hill, Tina decided to leave the label to pursue other things with her career. After leaving the label, Tina started another project. By the end of 2000, All You Need was completed. She used her band, at the time, on the project as well as taking on the role as producer. "All You Need" was just as well received as "Just You Wait and See." The hopes are that the new project with the new band will be even more received within the bluegrass world.
For those of you that haven’t heard Tina sing, you need to check her out and the new band out at (www.myspace.com/tinaadairband). For those of you who have, you will definitely be pleased when you hear her new material and new band!
TIM DISHMAN
Tim Dishman has joined forces with his wife Tina Adair. Tim’s strong vocal blend with Tina and his authentic and versatile bass playing provide the backbone for the band’s dynamic sound!
Born in Valparaiso, Indiana, Tim has family roots deeply planted in Alabama and West Virginia. He grew up playing drums and occasionally electric bass in his family’s gospel band. He turned to bluegrass at the young age of thirteen when he received his first guitar and his first Tony Rice album. The Porter County Bluegrass band was his first bluegrass “gig” playing acoustic guitar. He later began playing electric bass with The Kenny Stone Unit. It wasn’t until Tim met the leader of the Special Consensus band, Greg Cahill that he would get an opportunity to show off his talent(s) as an acoustic bass player and tenor singer. Tim became of member of Special Consensus in 1999 and traveled with the band through 2004.
While a member of Special Consensus, Tim was on two of the band’s recordings. The first being the Special Consensus 25th Year Anniversary project. The second was the award-winning Route 10 project. Tim has also been a two time nominee for bass player of the year at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards (IBMA)
Tim resigned from the Special Consensus band in April of 2004 to pursue other career interests! However, as fate would have it, he is back to doing what he does best…..playing the “doghouse” bass and singing the rich harmony vocals with the Tina Adair Band.
JUSTIN CARBONE
Justin Carbone plays guitar and sings lead, baritone, bass and tenor vocals.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Justin attended his first bluegrass festival (Wind Gap) at the age of 10 and was given a banjo on his 12th birthday. Soon he was learning to play both the banjo and guitar, and he formed a band called Kickin’ Grass with several friends. By 1998, that band had evolved into the Pennsylvania-based bluegrass band, 2nd Edition, which won the SPBGMA band contest in Nashville in 2001. Justin continued to play with 2nd Edition until he relocated to Nashville in 2004 and joined The Special Consensus. He released his first solo recording, Take Some Time, on the Pinecastle Records label in 2005 with special guests Alan Bartram, Mike Brubaker, Greg Cahill, Ashby Frank, Jeremy Garrett, Randy Kohrs, Steve Thomas and Josh Williams.
Justin is currently playing on and engineering the Tina Adair Band’s current project and initiated a demo production company in Nashville in 2008. He has also begun producing recordings of other bands.
SIM DALEY
As the newest member to come to the band, Sim handles the banjo duties. Born in England, he grew up in a small Cornish fishing village in the southwest of England where he acquired a taste for Bluegrass music. In June of 1994, Sim won first place at the renowned Edale Bluegrass Festival Banjo Contest, the largest in the UK at the time. Sim was part of the band Wild Turkey at this time, playing extensively in and around the southwest of the country. During his three-year tenure with the band he had the honor of touring Brittany, France, before Sim departed for the United States. He now makes his home in Nashville, TN.
Sim has shared the stage with such artists a Melonie Cannon, Adam Steffey, Ronnie Bowman, Kim Gardner, Deanie Richardson, Steve Thomas & Booie Beech. He is also the sole proprietor of Daley's Instrument Co., which caters to the needs of professional road musicians, studio players, and hobbyist musicians alike. Sim is also the builder of Daley mandolins and guitars, which are played by the likes of Dan Tyminski (Alison Krauss and Union Station) and Adam Steffey (Dan Tyminski Band), Stephen Mougin (Sam Bush Band), Aaron Ramsey (Mountain Heart) and most recently, Tina Adair (the Tina Adair Bane) to name a few.
Sim is delighted to finally be part of the Tina Adair Band. He states, "I have been a huge fan ever since I first heard her 10 years ago. I always wanted to share the stage with Tina & now after an extended wait it's finally happened"!
