Relay for Life is an incredible, life-changing event in which I've participated since 2001. I can't think of a single one of us who wouldn't know someone who, directly or indirectly, has been affected by cancer. This video gives a basic overview for those who have already particpated, and info for those who haven't.

  • Music

Ah, lots - classic rock (Rolling Stones, Journey, Led Zeppelin, others - Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good To Me So Far" is one of the best all-around songs of all time) dance music (gotta have a dance-able beat), , 80s, classical, Enya, Billy Joel, Elton John, a little bit of country, but not much, Dana Glover, The Carpenters, Christopher Cross, Chantal Kreviazuk, Paul McCartney, George Harrison. Many Church hymns are beautiful, too - especially those set for Christmas: "Night of Silence" is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. Essentially, two songs that would pretty much sum me up would be "He Ain't Heavy - He's My Brother" and "The Prayer of St. Francis ('Make Me a Channel of Your Peace')."
  • Movies

Hmmmm....spooky ones, Steel Magnolias... The Others, Rebecca (the old black-and-white version with Joan Fontaine)...Schindler's List (at which I cry every time), The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Exorcist, Halloween, The Ring, The Matrix, Forrest Gump. When I was younger I watched "Aliens" every single time it was on HBO - sometimes several times in one day and/or back-to-back, which is just really sad. And odd.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl, The Secret Life of Bees, A Mighty Heart, Brother Odd, Biography of Kathleen Kennedy, (Jack Kennedy's sister), October Dreams, The Time Traveler's Wife, Peace Like a River, Anna Quindlen: Loud and Clear, Molly Ivins: Who Let the Dogs In?, Marjorie Williams: The Woman at the Washington Zoo, The Monster at the End of the Book. I adore books that, once you're done reading them, change you forever. Basically, if all I ever got for gifts for the rest of my life were gift cards to Barnes and Noble, I'd be a happy girl.

Tina Schrader's Facebook profile..

Silly, goofy, doesn't take to much to make me happy/excited, easily amused. You probably won't ever hear me say that I'm bored, because 2) my mother never gave my brother and me sympathy for that - there was always something to do, so we learned to look for it or make it up! and b) it sounds pretty lame. I'm also serious, want to make a difference in this world, caring, loving, very considerate, love kids, a great mother who has yet to make her debut, fiercely loyal to and protective of friends and family, spiritual/religious, intelligent, try to see and listen to all sides of things, think about things and the issues of the day (or of the past). Actually, in some ways I'm an anachronistic anomaly - and so dichotomous that I can't make up my mind half the time. But I'm fun and if you go to an amusement park with me, you'd better be prepared to ride every roller coaster and ride there until they kick us out - or we fall over. And finally, someone who is still learning that brevity is, indeed, a virtue. :-) I worked on two political campaigns, reading, writing, traveling, hanging out, being/talking with family (my favorite thing to do, since they don't live here), being silly, going to amusement parks and trekking to curious, off-the-beaten-path locales. I love all things beautiful, Politics, history, art, Halloween, fall (now that it's that time of year), traveling, seeing different places (my father once referred to my move to Los Angeles as my way of satisfying my wanderlust, and he was right. It's satisfying it for the time being, anyway.), helping others, being of service, trying to figure out the enigmatic part of me - finding myself, basically, but I wanted that to sound more interesting :-)

Planet in Peril: Battle Lines
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNyf65hSS1M

Animals on the brink of extinction don't care about party lines, and arguing over global warming won't stop ice caps from melting. Blue, red, green, free - doesn't matter. This is what's happening, people. And we need to pay attention. We need to live our lives but also be good stewards of the earth. This can show us how.
