Influences
Martin Simpson. Dick Gaughan. Martin Carthy. Al Petteway. John Martyn. RJ(Bob) Stewart (who bridges instrumental and vocal influence for his massive contribution to our sound). The musical talent of Karine Polwart and Sarah McQuaid. The voices of June Tabor. Joni Mitchell. Sandy Denny. Jaquie McShee and Maddy Prior. Celtic harpists Alan Stivell and Kim Robertson and Lal Waterson.
After a tour of the Western
Isles of Scotland, Tinkerscuss recorded their first home produced CD in 2003
called “A Tangle of Isles” on their own “Fae Folk Music” label. The title
is a play on the term “tangle of the isles” referring tothe
mixture of smells of peat, heather, machair moor and the sea .. and also the
rich and diverse blend of culture and music from the scattered islands around
Britain as the album included songs from Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and
England.
“Of Darkwoods and Bright
Fires” followed in 2006 and still kept a “Celtic” theme blended with some
traditional English songs. During 2006/7 Tinkerscuss continued to perform to
folk clubs and music festivals throughout the UK.
“Mythago” came next in
2007 with its strong mythical references. Now Tinkerscuss were becoming
identifiable with the storyteller or shanachie of old – whisking the audience
away from the mundane world of everyday life.
The review by FolkWords (www.folkwords.com)
says it all:
“Delicate, powerful beauty.
Mythago from Tinkerscuss is a rare, rich treasure of story and myth delivered
with refined atmosphere and edge. Mythago encompasses depth, power and force
delicately applied. Just a touch is all that's needed to reach out and enthral
the listener. There is within this album a mix of love, fear, darkness and light
that carries a dreadful beauty. To Make You Stay is gentle soft seduction, while
The Cursing Song has a guitar that slithers up and down your spine. And their
outstanding version of Long Lankin will linger in your head for a long time.
Fine Horseman is magic - probably best listened to in front of a single candle
in the dark - just to make sure you're spooked. An album of passionate music.”
Bryony's rich, resonant vocal
and Erin's modal guitar style have always enthralled the listener and wrapped
them in the mists of myth and musical legend and with the addition of the
multi-talented Kathryn ‘Pixie’ Wheeler on viola, accordion and vocals in October
2008 the band was now complete.
In 2009 Tinkerscuss commenced
recording their next the album “Nine Trees” which will include original
material penned over the summer of 2009.

'She's Late!' This came to me today on my walk along the way, hope you enjoy. Merry love, Fleas x
"She's late she's late," his small eyes implored as he continued "The Maids of the wood hold still most their gowns." "She's here" I replied. "Do not worry yourself so." "But she's late," and this he all but squeaked. "Lady Autumn is here though," I soothed. "Regard the Horse Chestnut spent." "But the Rowen, the Rowen," he said with one tiny paw held tightly in tuther. "She is bountiful and ready to feed a host, surely she must have wise of Lady Winters early and harsh arrival? I am so confused, I fear Lady Autumn will skip light with us this year." "She shall not," I said and then ventured, "Perhaps take yourself for a little while to the Pine who is evergreen and ever undeterred by such matters." He eyed me rather suspiciously and then asked what was truly on his mind. "Erm, have you any idea when I may be able to wear a Liberty Cap this season?" Though to this I could only smile and replied, "Try upon tomorrows misty most dawn and indeed if you find there are many then please bring me just a few to share."

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
Good luck at Banbury Folk Club next week! We're playing at the George in Brailles just down the road from there in November - try to come along. A great little venue
"Black Sarah " - a beautifully done song which brings fond memories back of the time I spent in Sainte Marie de la MÈR dancing with the gypsies, drinking red wine and feeling free as a bird ! An old gypsie woman read the future in my hand ..... And I nearly went skysurfing..... Lovely song, lovely voice , beautifully done !
Just read the last post ... we both signed the petition in 2002 when we played a benefit concert in Groningen, Holland. Will they ever learn ? Whatever artist or non-artist reads this, please sign the petition to free Leonard Peltier ! This cruel circle of injustice must be broken !!!
Love and blessings from Andrea .(love and wishes from Buddy, too.) xxxxxx
