TINPOTS play the songs of Philip Davis.
The new self made album SOFTHEAD was released at the end of 2007 and is available from www.tinpots.com
It features 14 songs ranging from the big band brassy sound of Coincidental song to the delicate folkish Gunfire. Vocal harmonies and a wide range of instruments including brass, t chest bass, bass clarinet, strings and keys are a constant factor in TINPOTS music.
They have appeared on BBC 1 television and Radio 1 where they were voted God of the god of the pod for the title track of SLUGS - the album released in 2006 ( also available from the tinpots website)
Here is a recent review of SOFTHEAD that appeared on toxicpete.co.uk -
Tinpots are a transient collective based around the writings of Philip Davis; from solo to multi-musician, Tinpots alter their number to suit the song and it's requirements. Everything just so, everything crafted and executed with precision, understanding and breathtaking attention to detail.
The inherent transience of the Tinpots organisation ensure nothing is over-cooked and Davis' beautiful songs are allowed to stand proudly at the heart of the Tinpots ethos. Quite right too; Tinpots songs are beautifully and lovingly created and Tinpots ability to make the most of each song is inspired. With a great mixture of styles and emotions 'Softhead' is positively alive with charm and sensitivity.
Tinpots' 'Softhead' caresses to heart and feeds the soul - nothing here is likely to cause tension or put the listener on edge. Mixed and recorded with complete empathy for the sentiment therein, 'Softhead' is a breath of fresh air just when you're most needing it. Davis' songs are luscious and poetic and Tinpots eke the most out of each work by their fine attention to detail and consummate professionalism. 'Softhead' is an album of reflection and emotion; a gentle and classy work but one that's quite hard to pigeonhole. Certainly, Tinpots 'cross-over' from just pure acoustic to blur the normal territorial boundaries of modern music but retain an heavy element of nu-folk that borders on intelligent pop for the mature and discerning ear.
Beguiling to the point of becoming bewitching, 'Softhead' by Tinpots is overflowing with superior musicianship and creativity and an absolute pleasure to behold.

The Result of a Comfortable Silence Category: Writing and Poetry
The fire flickers in the clear moonlight Which casts an arching glow Cast an aura where i used to stand Comfortable silences can be all encompassing Can run through time we don't have Footprints cast shadows in the sand Though i said i would never turn out this way The amount of times i turned away From the only path i understand My embers fade to ashen grey Reminders of how you slipped away Slipped away from my weakened hand
I'm returning home to the lowlands A world i know too well My head has been in the clouds for far too long Haven't missed the feeling of the ground
Your summer blue eyes begin to fade From my mind with wintry clouds to pale grey Subtle in it's obviousness Like words barely spoken Dissipate in the ears of those who hardly listen A memory told in fragments In pieces of a world i have never experienced A shattered glass reflecting through my common sense Refracting and amplifying my helplessness A dying flame Dancing wildly to hold his minutes of fame But all good things come to an end
I'm returning home to the lowlands A world i know too well My head has been in the clouds for far too long Haven't missed the feeling of the ground
