Acoustic rock and electric folk all tinged with a Celtic soul and a soaring Sprirt!
Tintagel was formed in 1988 by four chums in the Christian Union at Royal Holloway College under the punningly awful name "Seaport Confusion" as: 1) a bit of a laugh, and 2) to provide some light relief from all the dire Cure and Guns 'n' Roses clones which were entering the annual College Battle of the Bands competition! The sheer surprise of coming second (...much to the other competitors' annoyance and astonishment...) convinced them that there might just be something in it, they ought to learn a few more songs and maybe change their name to something a bit less mickey-taking. Frantic learning of Fairport Convention, Indigo Girls and Del Amitri songs followed along with the realisation that they ought to write some of their own material too. Between then and going their separate ways in 1993 Tintagel became weekend-warrior regulars on the folk circuit and other venues around the South-East. Developing their own female fronted, fiddle-toting, Celtic tinged acoustic folk-rock sound (years before anyone had ever even heard of a "Corr"!) they produced a couple of well received recordings - the self-titled "Tintagel" EP in 1989 and the full length "Sword and Stone" just over a year later. Both recordings were produced by Karl Groom (now lead guitarist in UK prog-metallers, "Threshold", and a respected prog-rock and metal producer for the likes of Dragonforce!!) and received very favourable reviews in magazines such as Folk Roots and Cross Rhythms in the UK, White Throne in the US and a couple with unpronounceable names from the Netherlands. Regular appearances at the Greenbelt Festival Fringe followed along with a headline slot at the Ludlow Fringe Festival and a residency at a local music and comedy club (opening for the likes of the yet to be famous Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey, Linda Smith and Mark Steele). Before long, however, jobs, new girl/boyfriends, life and general stuff took their toll and in 1993 it was decided to call it a day. All the members are still active in music in one way or another - however, we like to think that this was where it all started! Anyway, hope you enjoy a few of the old tunes! God bless, Tintagel (as was), 2006 .

Hey! Hope you are doing good. I wanted to let you know about a show i'm doing in London on Sunday, June 1st.
I'm touring with Tommy Allsup. He played guitar with Buddy Holly, and is the guy playing on songs like "Heartbeat", "It's So Easy", etc, etc.....he is 76 and still going strong.
He is a character.
Anyway, i would love to see you at the show. I think as a fellow musician that you will really appreciate seeing Tommy play, and listening to his stories! He is THE guy that flipped the coin with Ritchie Valens.
If you want to see Tommy in action....check out my blog. There is a video from last week in Nashville from the studio.
Take care, the music is sounding great, and i hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,
Kevin Montgomery

Hey! How's the weather over there? I just want to let you know that i'm coming to London in late May/early June to play bass with Kevin Montgomery and Tommy Allsup. Tommy played guitar with Buddy Holly, and is THE guy that flipped the coin with Ritchie Valens.....would love to see you at a show? I figured with you being a musician you could appreciate this show. We play the Half Moon Putney. I hope you can come down?
Take care!
DW

Al Perkins is with me, and a great band called Shurman.
Anyway, take care and hope to see you.

This specially compiled 4 CD Box Set from Time Life features the best Folk Rock songs from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s! Includes 71 Songs That Defined An Era and Influenced Generations... In Stores September 11
Not just another genre, folk rock was born as a statement—of purpose, of taste, of superiority—the baby boom’s first imprimatur, a musical mission and a personal battle cry in a divisive time of racial tension and escalating war. For a generation of philosopher dropouts and drug-inspired visionaries, it was also the best way to partake in the era’s hippest form of artistic expression, in numbers previously unknown to man.
I fear I never did thank you for re-adding me fairly recently after my page was stolen by some useless little pig a year ago. I don't have my music on any more but instead promote my son's excellent band. I wonder if I shall be remembered by you with a slightly different name. Lovely music by the way. Phil (Cornwall)
