About me:

Titular Journal

Titular publishes fiction named after titles from novels, films, and television shows. We prefer common to esoteric. The more popular the appropriation, the better. Each story reconstructs concepts instilled by these former titles by using and recycling existing ideas. An example of stories may be: The Great Gatsby, Golden Girls, Porky’s Revenge, Wheel of Fortune, Good Will Hunting, Back to the Future II, Seinfeld, Pride and Prejudice, Ulysses, etc.

This is a branching-out point for writers, not a constraint. The stories do not need to relate to the original entity from which the title came, but should be inextricably tied to title itself on a semantic level.

Our goal is to build a literary collective of New Beginnings. As we move along, ideally, we will construct a narrative based on archives (i.e. The collected Works of Kafka or, The Films of Tom Hanks). Writers will play and feed off one another.

This is not an invitation for pure satires, pop-for-pop-sake, or meanderings about the Original. While new alternate meanings may—and should be—constructed by these appropriations, we ultimately want fiction that is interesting on its own merit. We are open to anything from humorous to ‘literary’; from traditional form/narrative to experimental—we simply want YOU, dear reader and writer, to be enthralled.

In celebration of Bloomsday today, June 16th, check out “Potato I Have” at ELIMAE. It’s a derived text that tracks Joyce’s use of the potato - a talisman for Bloom - in Ulysses.

And, if you’re in the mood for more Joycean derivations, check out “Gate. Safe!” at Admit Two, which tracks the theme of safety and recurring gates imagery throughout Joyce's Ulysses The moment in the book that inspired me occurs in the eighth episode, Lestrygonians: “Gate.
Safe!”

Hello, Titular. Directing your attention to “Potato I Have” at ELIMAE. It’s a derived text that tracks Joyce’s use of the potato - a talisman for Bloom - in Ulysses.
