Stop trying to raise the dead. Suspend listener's awareness of awareness. Discard fidelity to objective audio fact.
The first TL0741 release, BACK TO MINUS appeared in July 2008, here are some review excerpts:
"Congruent to his Northern Machine project, TL0741 is a solo effort that probes the territory of evil retro sci-fi without one ounce of camp. Every filter sweep to bassy drone rumble projects the listener into ever deeper foreboding sonic atmospheres. If you liked Zoviet France and Throbbing Gristle back in the day I think you will really enjoy this. Gillis has exacting standards when it comes to modulating those VCO's but if you prefer your noise with a bit of glitch and buffer-override, perhaps you may need a bit more sound mangle in your ear." - Derek Morton, www.furthernoise.org
“Now, although I receive hefty amounts of purely atonal cosmick explorations through the post, much of it is neither useful nor even interesting. So it was to my utter delight that this amazing BACK TO MINUS debut album has demanded heavy rotation for the past three weeks, colouring my meditations, illustrating some of my deepest dream patterns, and generally munging up the entire neighbourhood.” – Julian Cope, www.headheritage.co.uk
“"Back to minus" is an experimental album in the sense that it seems as if its creator, Pat Gillis, is trying to balance as many objects as he possible can. In this attempt great tension is created through the various languages that these sounds have, and throughout these five tracks this tension is being kept, if not tightened, without breaking up. A highly recommended adventure indeed!” – Oren ben Yosef, www.heathenharvest.com
Second release, MAGNETIC INJURIES, is scheduled for late 2009.
hey man... let me know when you can make it down here to play a show sometime.... you're seriously throwing down some of the best noise in the district. keep it sick, brother.
yeah man... i'm living in raleigh now. so, corpus callosum is more of a recording project, but we'll definitely be doing a couple weekends this year i hope...
hey man... thanks so much for your help the other night with loading in. i thought your set at the electric possible last year was really sick... some of the best experimental music coming out of dc. keep up the good work.
The long running collaboration between Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words and Violet has arisen from the ashes of dormancy. Dead Violets has received a new lease on its bleak outlook on life with the appearance of its newest member, Bethany Moore, adding sultry vocals/vocalizations to the mix. "Banish" is the result of the dronecore power trio's first endeavor, and just an apperetif of upcoming audio onslaught that Dead Violets will unleash. A shiny 3" cdr that guarantees not to shine any light.
and it was a pleasure to play for you lovely folks.. thanks for coming out.. ^_____^ im really bummed that i had to leave so early.. i was up all night and the next day doing that paper and even then i barely got it in before grades closed..
Thanks for the add! I saw that you're playing as part of Audio Vortex #7, so I came to check out your stuff. Very mysterious and chilled out. Hopefully I get a chance to see you play in February!
