CRM: The Early Years...
Born in Memphis, Colonel Robert's professional career started in the back room juke joints of Memphis.
Robert was part of the world famous "Memphis Sound."
The 70's found Colonel Robert touring with Charlie Feathers, (One Hand Loose). In 1988, Robert & his beautiful wife, Irene shared a cameo role in the Finnish movie, "Leningrad Cowboys Go America," an instant cult classic.
In 1995, Colonel Robert started adding to his vast music catalog finding success with his hit song, "The Trucker's Last Ride," a song that still enjoys success in Country Music today.
Colonel Robert grew up around country music & big rigs. He has driven cross country runs, worked with his father in a diesel repair shop, & even was back counter parts manager at a Ford big truck dealership!
He has used these experiences when writing his classic trucking songs like, "I Work On The Trucks."
On the liner notes of his trucking CD, "Highway Hero," are these lines...
"Colonel Robert Morris was born with axle grease in his hair, and diesel fuel running through his veins.
Sharing endless stories of the road over gallons of coffee with fellow truckers, laid the foundation for the trucking songs He would write & record.
Now after thirty years of twang guitars & whiskey soaked bars, He has lived the songs that He writes!"
Now a few words from the Colonel himself...
"In 1995, I wrote and recorded "The Trucker's Last Ride" about Doug Maten, a trucker that requested to ride on the trailer of his big rig to the graveyard. When he died of cancer a couple of months later, the company painted the trailer black, and laid down gray carpet. His brother-in-law Pete drove Doug's rig leading a mile of truckers.
This became my signature song.
In 2007, Bill Bright Sr. was a trucker from South Carolina who loved "The Trucker's Last Ride" so much that when he passed away, a friend of his, Angela Self, requested permission to play it at Bill's funeral. We asked if we could write a song for Bill, and "Highway Hero" was born!
Bill's wife Annette, their son Bill Jr, Angela and a few friends and family drove down here to Mississippi to meet my wife Irene and I. During that weekend they asked if I would record a trucking CD which would include "The Trucker's Last Ride" and "Highway Hero" respectfully.
We are proud to announce that June 14, 2008 was the release date for "Highway Hero" our new trucking CD!
To make it even more special, I've included on the CD a song is close to my heart. "Mother's Hall Of Fame" was co-written by Mr. Charlie Louvin. It a haunting bluegrass story.
There is also a rockabilly tune, "Rockabilly Town" that pays respect to my days in Memphis playing with Charlie Feathers and other cats!"
