Not partial to non-fiction or fiction, I love them both. I just love real stories. The ones most teeny-boppers think are boring. Military stories, political thrillers, ones that make you explore your soul, and best of all... LOVE.
And of course, photography. This is my favorite place in the world to just day dream. Seal Rock, San Francisco, CA.
Here's a few pics of my life, some of my photography, and various other things. There is also a whole album of pics of my performance in Leading Ladies. All theatrical production photos provided by Digiflash Photography.
And of course! Where would I be without this little flick! Keg of the Dead, the best damn 16mm film I've ever seen! Them innards is real!
Here are a few pics from my virgin trip to Deal's Gap:
Music
It goes without saying that in talking about American music, we are talking about black music, which means we are talking about racism, out deepest shame. But also the most fertile ground for our redemption. --Jen Chapin
A most profound quote from the daughter of Harry Chapin. As with movies, too much here for me to mention with any accuracy. I genuinely enjoy all types of music. I can range one day from Bela Fleck or Medeski, Martin, and Wood (MMW)... to Tool, The Funkdoobie Brothers, or Gang Starr. Other cultures can make me weep too, like Spirituals music from the slaves, or a simple romantic riff from my guitar. I play daily, but am far from a professional. I rock mostly blues, new rock riffs, or even some country style will come out of me. Once a child said to me while I was strumming, "Are you gonna play anything that DOESN'T sound like country?" I was flattened, since country is the genre I listen to the least.
Alright, let me put it to you this way... I'm one of few people I know who can be completely entertained by 5 minutes worth of commercials. There is some powerful cinematic imagery out there! Of course, when they interrupt a compelling story in a favorite show, well, it's interrupting!
Here is an excerpt from the book by Thich Nhat Hanh: Professor Hans Kung has said, "Until there is peace between religions, there can be no peace in the world." People kill and are killed because they cling too tightly to their own beliefs and ideologies. When we believe that ours is the only faith that contains the truth, violence and suffering will surely be the result. The second precept of the Order of Interbeing, founded within the Zen Buddhist tradition during the war in Vietnam, is about letting go of views: "Do not think the knowledge you presently possess is changeless, absolute truth. Avoid being narrow-minded and bound to present views. Learn and practice nonattachment from views in order to be open to receive others' viewpoints." To me, this is the most essential practice of peace.
However, here is a sample of short story I wrote for a class once. Please endulge. Constructive feedback always welcome! BLANKS.
A young U.S. Marine caught in a vaccum of his own identity, struggles with the values instilled from his mother, and that of the killing machine he so wishes to become of part of.
Frank Langella once told me, "If you don't like it, don't do it." This was after the question of 'Who do you look up to in the acting world?' His response? "Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp..."
Gene Hackman once said, "The difference between a hero and a coward is about one step sideways." I try to apply this philosophy to every day of my life.
My favorite line of all time?
"Have you any commission from your lord to negotiate with my face?" (actually its "Alpha Masta Beta, Bitch!" from KEG OF THE DEAD, but I digress partly.)
If you can name the play, I think we'll get along to some degree. There are days where I find myself lost in a world of romance, with my face buried in The Riverside Complete Works of Shakespeare. Having presumed this type of talk so boring since high school, this fog of prejudice was burnt off when I became reacquainted through a few passionate individuals.
Which leads me to my aspirations. I am an actor, allbeit, not a good one in my own eyes, but I'll let you be the judge of that. We Cancer's are never satisfied unless perfection is achieved. My never ending challenge though, is the recurring realization that its not the result your after, but the love of the journey.
So the question becomes, where will that jorney take me? I do have a motorcycle.... hmm... ideas. LOTS of ideas!
For the Freudians and Jungians out there, whichever team you're on, I'm an ENFP. Which means a lot of things, but all the beaurocratic complexes associated with that type come with me in force. I'm a dreamer at heart, so I prefer to surround myself with friends who can advise me on the details of things, unless its something creative. Then I prefer to take advice as appropriate. I have a tendency to find ways to break rules instead of following them. And if I meet you and find out you aren't following your dreams, then you can expect an onslaught of questions... possibly coupled with some passionate persuasion.
The single most important thing to me in my life is my family. No one gets to mess with that, not work, not church, not the flex-time continuoum... or whatever that thing is. After that, its acting. Then fun, then work (which should be fun anyways, so it doesn't really count).
If I were to ask every single person in the world to do something...? It would be: Love they neighbor, love thy pet, love thy annoying little moth buzzing around in your living room lamp. And for the sake of humanity, just be nice! You're always more approachable if you're nice. And do we not all want to be approachable? Yes, I think we do.
To say that I enjoy helping others would be a misleading statement. I do enjoy that very much, but I like to be more specific than most. I enjoy helping people find more happiness and joy in their life, and helping them find better ways to eliminate the pain in their life. How do I do that? Acting is the first thing that comes to mind for me. More importantly, storytelling. Either through writing, theater, film, music, or simply just lending an open ear. I'm not the most Alpha out there, but reasonably outgoing. I enjoy meeting new people through friends with similar interests. I don't really care how or where I meet someone, as long as the chemistry is there. A fair homebody, my hard party days are pretty much over. The aging libido just can't take the ultra-late nights anymore. I don't know if I'm witty, funny, smart, or regularly show chivalry. I'm just myself. It's all I know how to be. I don't judge people for one thing or another, unless they personally violate one of my many principles (which I hope I never have to articulate). If that's the case, then I usually just repel away from the negative energy instead of trying to keep them close and change them.
I am originally from Central Arkansas, but lived in San Francisco, CA, for many years. This is the place where I would sharpen my skills and talents as an artist, however, it is also the place where I would learn to accept people for who they are unconditionally. In a place like SF, you have no choice but to be accepting, otherwise you might not have any friends at all! Theater has helped teach me this as well. So I don't know, do you want more? I'm open to meeting as many people as I can, so friend me up! Let's have a chat over drinks, be they a Martini, Irish coffee, hot coco... water?
Here is a little taste of the film work I've done so far. you can also view these in my Videos section.
This is a Cinematography midterm project I had a little fun with. 16mm color, all shot on a 100ft roll of film. I used an ArriSR for this one:

You Are a Newborn Soul
You are tolerant, accepting, and willing to give anyone a chance.
On the flip side, you're easy to read and easily influenced by others.
You have a fresh perspective on life, and you can be very creative.
Nonconformist and nontraditional, you've never met anyone who's like you.
Inventive and artistic, you like to be a trendsetter.
You have an upbeat spirit and you like almost everything.
You make friends easily and often have long standing friendships.
Impulsive and trusting, you fall in love a little too easily.
Souls you are most compatible with: Bright Star Soul and Dreaming Soul
