The basic gist of the outfit is to play loud, have a laugh and write catchy tunes. Its all about the funk, the whole funk and nothing but the funk.
We sound like Incubus molested (in a good way) by the Chili's and Funkadelic.
Tobacco Suntan originally started up in 2001 as a collage band, with two of the current members Bailey and Jing along with Dom and Jip. After achieving reasonable local success around the Kidderminster area the band was separated by university. It was to lay dormant until the summer of 2008 when Baileys old band Kill Jonny Rock Star, a Metal outfit, disbanded with members allegedly emigrating to greener pastures. A frustrated Bailey decided it was time to once again get funky, and so thought it a wise move to reform the legendary Tobacco Suntan. Jing was still more then willing to step up to the plate but what about a Singer and Drummer? Liam was contacted and asked to lay down the lyrics and charming melodies and Karl, the drummer of Kill Jonny Rock Star, to keep it all together! Both of course were more than happy to lend a hand in spreading the funk!
Work soon began in the rehearsal room on both new and old material, and now armed with a mix of whatever the hell the sound is, its time to spread the work of the Suntan once again by playing where and whenever possible and recording whenever we can with a dodgy chap called Terry!
