The 3 began in 2005 under the name Pennies and Swingsets, playing around Dallas predominately the Exposition Park area. After some deliberation they decided to change the name to Formicah until they were asked to, once again, change the name by the good people at DuPont for fear of giving the company that brought you cancer causing spray on adhesive a bad name. Deciding on Tober Omi (Latin for Circus owner) for it's connotations in relation to the up and down, side to side motions, and unexpected turns of a carnival ride that are prevalent in most of the songs. Paul Nichols (bassist/producer) and Zack Heath (drummer) met at Austin College in Sherman, Texas and began drinking together finding common ground in their musical interests (Jazz, Classical, and many rhythm and bass oriented bands). Chris Gardner, (vocals, lyrics, guitar) met Paul through a mutual friend and the two decided to try working on some projects together. When it was decided that the sound desired could not be achieved without an actual drummer, Paul enlisted the help of long time friend and out-side of the box talent Zack. Chris coming from a very different school of music, (i.e. no discernable school as he has had no technical training) goes about adding texture to the driving rhythms Paul and Zack create by adding the ugliest and most unusual noises he can muster with his instrument and layering that with cryptic and at times unnerving lyrical content. Live they are a true spectacle. They jump, they scream incoherently; they beat their chests and stomp their feet while creating a sound that can only be described as a circus funeral procession gone horribly wrong. A sight to behold.

Double Wide: The Clutters / Tah-Dahs / Tober Omi / The States
A pair of reasonably catchy Memphis pop-rock acts book-end the opening and headline slots at this one; check their MySpace pages and you may very well be convinced to attend this, at least for what The Clutters deliver. Meaty! But the real star of this show is Dallas' Tober Omi--you know how so many bands like to copy Gang of Four these days? Tober Omi's the first I've heard to really capture that band's fuck-all spirit without sounding a thing like them, choosing instead a post-punk attack that has the carnie mentality of outfits like Man Man. Be part of something big by attending this fucking show.
