After learning the basics whilst singing in a Cathedral Choir in 1994, Toby's knowledge and love of music has expanded ever since. He has been involved in several contrasting ventures including numerous Musicals, a Piano Jazz/Pop duo, Indie-Rock band Days Like Stars and Saving Grace. However, Toby's most recent project ONE GLOVE, has gained considerable momentum since it's conception in 2007. Highlights to date include winning Triple J's Unearthed competition to play at international dance festival PARKLIFE, scoring a spot on the 2009 Good Vibes line up, and winning a $8,000 prize package through Australia's biggest dance music website inthemix.com.au.
Toby has also worked closely with the likes of Luke Hannigan (Lo-Tel) and Frank Xavier (Infusion) and AFI award winning composer Stephen Rae (The Alice, Love My Way).
But his solo venture brings him back to what enticed him into music in the first place - Harmony. Toby's ambient and polyphonic pieces of work are mostly instrumental by choice because he feels his notes and chords say more than lyrics. "When I write I use harmonies and chord structures to translate how i'm feeling. I put it down to my choral roots. Although most choral music is based on words I feel that the soaring melodies and lush chords and inversions are what gives you the spine-tingle".
Another medium that relies on notes and chords to take the forefront is music for film, one of Toby's aspirations. Aside from having his tunes played on Radio, he hopes to be able to write for film and television full-time.
A big live show is currently being worked on. STAY TUNED!
