The Todd Butler Group is a hard-bop to modern jazz quintet that performs both original and classic jazz. The group has received numerous awards and much recognition since its first performance in 1998.
The Baltimore-based band has performed at venues and Festivals such as Washington D.C.’s legendary Blues Alley, the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Artscape (mainstage), the Mt. Washington and Lancaster Jazz Festivals; The Virginia, Great Grapes and Linganore Wine Festivals; Federal Hill, Cross Street and Charles Village Festivals; Frederick, MD’s “In the Street Celebration, the New Haven Lounge, King of France Tavern, and Baltimore’s World Trade Center. The group was also featured on WMAR TV’s Rodrick’s for Breakfast.
In 1999, the Todd Butler Group was voted “Best Jazz Group” in the 15th Annual Mid-Atlantic Music Monthly Annual Readers’ Poll. The following year, the group released its debut CD, Lockout, on TBG Records. The CD received critical acclaim from publications and sources including Jazzreview.com, Baltimore Magazine, and Music Monthly Magazine. Lockout has also received airplay on several radio stations.
“Nat’s Groove,” one of the many originals on Lockout, won first place in the 2000 DCJazz Online Recording Competition.
