Since winning a Lawrence, Kansas songwriting contest (judged by Robert Earl Keen and Butch Hancock) years ago, I've recorded 45s and cds, which several great record labels (including Medium Cool/Twin Tone and the legendary The Bus Stop Label) were kind enough to release. I had a band called The Leatherwoods that released a 45 and a cd (co-produced by Peter Jesperson and Paul Westerberg, who co-wrote a few tunes as an added bonus).
I've also played guitar or bass with the following bands/artists: Lions and Dog, Psychic Archie (one memorable gig!), Rory Borealus and the Filets of Soul, , Rocky and the Bluelighters (playing dives/country bars/strip joints in Topeka, Kansas, and other fun-filled sites in Kansas), Foodhead, Tank Farm, the George Akins Band (a country band that played country dives in Topeka, Kansas worse than the ones I played at with Rocky and the Bluelighers), Curtiss A, The Hayley Mills Brothers, The Beatifics, Grant Hart, Lori Wray, and The Hang Ups.
I'm currently working on a cd.

Jamboree
from Topeka Oratoria, Medium Cool, 1992
Co-penned by Todd Newman and Paul Westerberg, this ebullient rocker is but one of many highlights from the Leatherwoods debut, which the Trouser Press Record Guide rightfully labels a "lost classic." And while "Jamboree" may be the set's highlight, this list could include half a dozen others--namely "Proof Positive," "Happy Man," "Tinsel Town," "She's Probably Gonna Lie," and Tim O'Reagan's "Dreamworld," the creepiest/sweetest Alyssa Milano stalker song ever laid to wax." --Jim Walsh (in City Pages)...................
Good news! The brand new powerpopcompilation "Souvenirs" is being released this week! It contains 21 great North American powerpop tracks from 1975-95. You can hear three of the songs that just have been uploaded on our Myspage page. The CD includes a Todd Newman & The Leatherwoods track and also a track by Todd..s early band Lions & Dogs. The CD also contains a previously unreleased song by the great Canadian band Pointed Sticks recorded in the late 70..s. It is availabe from Not Lame Records and Kool Kat Musik, and it will very soon be available from CD Baby.¨
