Music
I listen to a wide variety of artists. I'm particularly fond of artists who combine soulful rhythms with lyrical poetry. One of my favorite musical poets is Leonard Cohen, and I particularly like Rufus Wainwright's interpretation of some of his music. I also particularly enjoy Tracy Grammer's wonderful voice and rhythms, especially her music with the late Dave Carter.
Movies
I like silly comedy, clever comedy, good science fiction, and I'm a sucker for a good love story. The Pink Panther series never fails to get me rolling, and I still enjoy the timeless comedy of the Marx Brothers and the silliness of the Three Stooges. I lose track of the details in a mystery, and most action movies bore me after the first few minutes. On the more primal side, I do enjoy a really well choreographed hand to hand fight scene, almost as much as a really well done erotic love scene.

Books
Books are a big part of my life, and I've put a lot of book reviews and recommendations into Amazon over the past few years. I don't plan to duplicate that here. If you are interested in my recommendations for areas of interest we might share, please see my Amazon book lists. My Amazon profile is at:

Heroes
There are a lot of people who seem to burn brightly for a while and then burn themselves out, leaving a trace of ashes. I think most of these get their energy from superficial appeal and our compelling biological attraction to gossip.
As a result, my heroes fall into two categories: (1) monomaniacs who devote themselves to creating a real and lasting legacy of culture or knowledge for the love of it, and (2) people who manage to carve a novel life for themselves while staying on a steady course driven by their deepest desires.
I particularly admire people who know themselves well enough to formulate really meaningful goals for themselves and then achieve their goals while finding balance in their life. It seems as if many people consider that a concession to pragmatic constraints. I think it is the whole point of life, and the meaning of human wisdom.

About me: My motto: The only thing we really control from moment to moment is where we focus our attention. If you learn to focus it well, it can add up to something meaningful over time.
The things that have stayed with me faithfully through my life have been my love of books, my interest in philosophy and science, my fascination with the limits of human performance and strategies for improving it, my enjoyment of martial arts training, my deep interest in the naturalistic study of the human mind and human behavior, and my wonderful family.
So I'm a triple threat: bookworm, information junkie, and computer nerd. You can imagine my fan club is usually pretty humble in size. All the more exciting when I find people who share my interests and obsessions, who enjoy reflecting on the same sorts of things that capture me, and who have a moment now and then to talk about them. If you got this far, you might just have a shot at qualifying! I'm not quite sure whether that's a compliment.
Who I'd like to meet: My favorite people to meet are great scholars whose books have inspired my mind to go in new directions. I'd like to someday meet some of my favorite philosophers, like Dan Dennett, Susan Haack, and Ian Hacking.
I'd like to meet some of the authors whose books I've reviewed over the years and whose ideas have so influenced my thinking.
I'd also like to meet some of the musician-poets like Leonard Cohen and Tracy Grammer whose inspiration is so unfathomable to me and yet can inspire such emotion.
I'd still like the opportunity to train with some of the amazing martial arts talents that I haven't yet met, like Rickson Gracie, although I feel as if I'm getting too old to fully appreciate the experience physically the way I would have a decade or so ago.
Most of all, I'd love to meet a few good people who share my interests and values, something that has turned out to be surprisingly difficult.
