Bio

Created in 2009 as a recording outfit, The Open Door Project is an exploration of sound. Incorporating live elements with samples and loops, the purpose remains to be as creative and open as possible in creating coherent concept driven pieces. Currently working on the second album, the band is also in the process of recruiting musicians to take the music live.
Although drenched in self-indulgence, the intention is to let the songs write themselves. To remain a medium for the music to take shape than to dictate it. To be involved in the purity of the creative zone and let things unfold as they have to, often incorporating influences from other arts such as literature or photography. The result is soundscapes defined by moods and vice versa. The song-writing uses imagery as a strong base to create lyrical pieces in sync with the concept defining the music.
Fusing elements from psychedelia, rock, trip-hop and electronica, the band tries to create textured and layered music to build upon the lyrical imagery. There is a conscious struggle within the band to break across the comfort zones of genre specificity to create a fluid soundscape that has a voice and a story to tell. The songs find home in languid movements through corridors of the mind... Sit back. Relax. Let us in.

  • Bio

The Open Door Project, now in its third year of existence, started out as a recording outfit in early 2009. Drawing inspirations from other arts such as literature and photography, the music merges Art rock with Psychedelia; building textures using samples and loops, along with live instrumentation to enhance the trip aspect of the music while creating coherent concept-driven pieces. The song-writing uses strong imagery to create lyrical pieces in sync with the theme driving the music, and the music in turn fuses elements from psychedelia, rock, trip-hop and electronica to create a layered atmosphere to build upon the lyrical imagery. The music often moves in phases, rising and falling with the moods of the song, leaving the listener in a different place than where he had started There is a conscious struggle within the band to break across the comfort zones of genre specificity to create fluid soundscapes that have a voice and a story to tell. Almost two albums worth of music recorded, the band is now taking the music live with the aim of inviting the audience to take a trip into the themes and thoughts that drive the music and visualize the soundscapes therein. The music works well for those who like to delve deeper into the music they listen to, and appreciate interesting, sometimes experimental, ways of producing it. The band has worked hard to develop a live act that complements the textured music. Using live electronics sampling, live guitar and vocal looping, and effects processing, the band builds layers live so the audience can experience them being created. Laptops, Effects processing units, and Midi controllers are as much a part of the set as microphones, guitars and drums. The band likes to push limits on technology available to enhance the experimentation aspect of performing the music, making The Open Door Project an intriguing act to watch live. Sit back. Relax. Let us in.
