Recently I saw Into The Wild, which finally opened here in Tokyo (*one year* after the States!) and can't remember the last time a film touched me so deeply...maybe Cinema Paradisio 18 years ago? Not only went to see the hghly entertaining Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr's best role since Chalpin), also checked out opening night of The Dark Knight, and I don't think Heath Ledger was acting, he was *channeling evil* from another dimension...what superb performances by all, and great plot, as well! Still wonder who's more evil, Hannibal Lector or the Joker...My all time fave movie is THE LION IN WINTER, which I can practically recite by heart! Then there's: I'm Not There, Control, URGH! Joseph Campbell!!! Plus the three Armstrongs: Neil, Louie, and Lance. Oh yeah, and TE Lawrence, and while I'm at it why not throw in Reinhold Messner, as well?
About me: I'm one of many Americans living in Japan, and have been doing so since June 2005. My job is teaching English to business people and government workers, which I really enjoy a lot.
Tokyo's an amazing place to live, and can get pretty crazy at times. Anything and everything is possible to buy, see and do. There's no place else like it, in this world, or beyond!
I've visited 48 of the 50 United States (hello North and South Dakota!), and been to approx 50 countries, hoping to reach 100 one day...sooner, rather than later!
I love exploring other cultures! Places I've lived and worked include: Houston, Washington DC, Austin, and Chicago, as well as Tennessee, Alaska, Tanzania, and Germany. All told, I've moved 23 times!
So basically the last 20+ years have been spent successfully communicating with people from a variety of countries every day for my work, whether it's been selling university textbooks and music CDs to overseas customers, or teaching English as a second language (ESL) in the US and abroad.
Probably the best way to describe what I do is to say I'm a professional communicator. Life's been one big adventure!
Who I'd like to meet: People who enjoy the absurdities and wonderment of life, pop culture, and have interesting experiences, anecdotes and insights to share. I started this page to better stay in touch with all of the many scattered friends I already have, as well as to new meet folks from all over the world!
Hello, it's always a pleasure to contact you. First, thanks for your friendship and if you have time, there are some new videos on my page. Life is beautiful. All the best - Pat.
Hey, Kelly. I don't get on MySpace a lot either actually. I love that you visited the night markets and partook of street cuisine. Hope you didn't get indigestion : ) And thanks for answering my question about Golden Week. I'd heard it referenced a few times, but never knew what it was. A week's holiday doesn't sound too bad, but I suppose it's a small compensation for the long days that are expected. Well, cheers! Hope things are going great.
Kelly! Good to hear from you! I also have not been on m'space much lately. Computer problems (i.e. slowwwwwww connections), an insane work schedule and no time. But thanks for staying in touch!
I really enjoyed SA. Didn't get to check out the nightlife, but did hear some bands playing at the various Fiesta festivities....mostly Santana covers and some good jazzy funk. Ate at Mi Tierra, which is the classic been-around-forever touristy Mexican place. Too festive by half w/ the decor, lol, but very good food, strolling mariachis, everything you would expect. My real discovery was Rosario's in Southtown, a fun place w/ excellent food. The best salsa I've ever had...it was addictive. And their chicken mole was outasite.
That Sigur Ros clip is aMAzing, no I haven't seen the DVD and I may have to get it. Thanks for that bone! Seeing the NY Dolls Thurs. nite and I'm psyched for it...will give you a report. Also, I saw this rock doc recently. I was not familiar with the Anvil oeuvre and it didn't make me a convert, but the movie was funny and entertaining, like Spinal Tap only real!
hey,i didnt see you last weekend! bhavesh was pretty wasted that night. haha. well,i hope you had a great weekend! btw,i love the music at mado, gotta check out dave seaman more :)
Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my 2nd horror novel SACRIFICE is now in stores everywhere, including Amazon.com! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride! Here are a couple reviews it's gotten so far:
“SACRIFICE is a full frontal assault on your senses. It is a dark, brutal, bloody and terribly frightening book. Everson went deep into some dark abyss to bring this book to the light of day.... I highly recommend SACRIFICE.” —Famous Monsters of Filmland
“John Everson manages in SACRIFICE to dispense buckets of blood, provide edgy perversity, and walk the tenuous tightrope of horror and sex without falling: It’s rather an amazing feat.” –Hell Notes
That Who clip was great! If anything Moon is underrated because in that footage he's damn well amazing. Here's another great drummer in a totally different setting. Way back in the dark ages this was one of my favorite songs...I was such a stoner into prog, lol!
Kelly! Well, unfortunately I will not have a car, so no road trips this time. But I'm staying at the Hilton Palacio del Rio, which is downtown and right on the Riverwalk. The location will be excellent for exploring downtown SA at least. That Peewee clip was quite amusing, but the Alamo looks like it would bore me to tears, LOL! I did tell my boss that I would take photos and blog while there, but I think I'd rather write about a good Mexican restaurant. And the whole time I'm there Fiesta will be ongoing...isn't that one of the major city festivals? It sounds like a big deal--a 10-day event. And as far as it being the heavy metal capital, yikes indeed....Pantera leaves me cold, lol! Won't be checking out the local music scene I'm afraid! I'm going to try and do a little research before I go so I can get the most out of my 5 days there.
