  • Lite View & Profile Shortcuts

    Current mood:relaxed

Lite View. MySpace has a new feature we call "Lite View." The purpose of the feature is to speed up page load if you visit a page that is bogged down by embeds. For example, say you hit a page filled with 5 YouTube Videos, 2 RockYou Slideshows and 3 Flash-heavy apps. A page like that is going to take a long time to download, especially if you're on a slow dial-up conncetion. Maybe you just want to see your friends activity stream, blog posts, or just want to leave them a message or comment. Well now you can click "Lite" in the nav bar to get a simplified, fast-loading version of their page. To switch it back to the full, just click Full. It toggles back and forth, and it'll stay on one setting while you browse other profiles until you switch it back.

Profile Shortcuts. We also have a profile shortcut feature that you should be aware of. Whenever viewing a profile, take a look at the nav bar--you'll see the users name at the end of the menu. There's a dropdown menu there that you can use to send a message, add a coment, or even go to other parts of a users profile (photos, videos, bulletins, or blogs for example). These shortcuts are easy because they're right at the top, but they're especially useful when a user has customized their page and made it difficult for you to find their contact links. Enjoy!

  • 10 Common Questions Answered (+ 1)

    Current mood:chill

10 Questions answered -- Actually 11, but 10 sounds better.

How can I crop or edit my photos on MySpace? Go to your own photos page. Click on an individual photo page. Click the "Customize Photo" button. We've got an awesome new photo editor.

How can I avoid solving those CAPTCHA "security codes" when using MySpace? Verify your PC by entering in a code we'll send you on a mobile phone, and you'll never see CAPTCHAs on MySpace again. Click here.

How can I message more than one person at a time? You can now send messages up to 60 people at once. Instead of typing in the people's names over & over, try creating a friend category for groups of people you message on a regular basis. Friend categories are created on the friends page. Click the "My Categories" Tab.

What is that number next to the Mail and Inbox menu items? That number shows how many UNREAD messages you have in your inbox. If you have messages from 2 years ago you haven't read, you'll see them reflected in this number, so be sure to go back and find all your old messages.

How can I make Profile 2.0 completely private? You can specify who can see any module on a 2.0 profile. Every module on profile 2.0 has "visibility" setting which lets you make it viewable by friends, by everyone, or by a specific friend category. Mouseover the module while in the profile 2.0 editor to access the visibility setting. You can even remove a module entirely so no one can see it--even your friends won't see it.

How can someone see my comments or friends if I'm using "Hide Codes"? Some users put "hide codes" on their proflie which covers up their friends, comments, last login date, etc. These codes really only mask what a user can see looking through a normal browser view. Anyone who knows how to view the source of your page can see everything you're trying hiding with hide codes. Also, hiding your friends does not make your friends PAGE or your comments PAGE private. For that reason, using hide codes does not really protect your privacy. If you want to make these things truly private, you need to switch to profile 2.0 where you can actually REMOVE those elements from your page (rather than mask them with hide codes). And you also need to go to "Privacy" page from "My Account" to turn on the Privacy settings for your friends and comments page.

How can I make my profile private on Mobile? There's a specific setting for privacy on mobile phones. If you want your profile to be public or private on mobile, go to "my account" and then "privacy" and adjust your setting.

How do I show my name under my picture like everyone else is doing? Go to "My Account" then "Contact Info" and check the box "Show my full name wherever my name and photo appear on MySpace." Click here for a shortcut.

How can I avoid typing my password everytime I login? Download the MySpace toolbar which stores your login info, and gives you alerts for new messages/comments/friend requests, in your browser without having to visit your home page! Get it here.

How do I show my Status/Mood & Activities on my page? You can't in profile 1.0. Upgrade to profile 2.0, then click the modules section and add the modules by clicking on them.

How do switch back from profile 2.0 to 1.0?  There is a "Go Back" button at the top of the page, within the editor. After you click Go Back you'll see a "Switch to Profile 1.0" option. If you don't see that option it's because you signed up after April 2nd, when we made Profile 2.0 the default. New MySpace users do not have the option of using 1.0.

  • Annoyed by CAPTCHAs?

    Current mood:happy

You can get rid of Captchas on MySpace! Captchas are those annoying little codes you're asked to enter when you're doing important stuff like sending messages, posting comments or adding friends.

They are necessary to curb spammers, but they're also annoying and slow you down.

Now you can verify your PC so you'll stop seeing CAPTCHAs while you're logged in on any browser from the machine you verify. You'll need a cell phone to receive the verification code.

    Just click here to verify.

A few things to note. 1) This feature is available for US users only. We'll be expanding to other territories soon. 2) If you have multiple MySpace accounts, you'll have to do it for both accounts. 3) You are not signing up for text alerts or any MySpace SMS functions by verifying. Your cell phone is used ONLY to verify your machine and turn off captchas. If you'd like to sign up for MySpace SMS alerts, or if you'd like to be able to update your status via SMS, go here.
  • photo editing, profile 2.0 updates, and myspace toolbar!

    Current mood:awake

Some more new features rolled out this week!

Profile 2.0 users can now add two new modules to their profile pages: activities and status/mood. (Look at my profile for an example.) Displaying this info on your profile makes it easy for your friends to stay updated, even if they miss your status & activities updates on their home page. We've also revamped the video slider module in profile 2.0, and it now fits any width/column size you chooose. To add these features to your 2.0 style profile, click the "modules" option in Customize profile. If you haven't updated to 2.0 yet, choose "Customize Profile" from the "Profile" dropdown.

Photo Editing or "Customize Photos." MySpace now has a rich, full-featured photo editor built into your photos page. Go to your photos page and click into an individual photo. You will see a new "Customize Photo" button. Click it and you'll be able do all kinds of cool things with your photos. There are the basics--crop, resize, rotate, colorize, but there's so a lot more--you can add speech bubbles/notes, and manipulate the photo in very sophisticated ways similar to Photoshop. Check it out! (Note: The photo editor is only turned on in US right now, it will launch in other countries by tomorrow.)

MySpace Toolbar. Tired of typing your email & password to login over & over? The Toolbar stores your login info so you never have to enter your password again! You can also get alerts for new messages, comments and friend requests from the toolbar, so you are instantly updated when there's something new on MySpace. It works for PC & Mac so try it out today! http://www.myspace.com/toolbar
