Doctor Who, fine indie music, wellies, apples, bare feet on grass, people who laugh a bit like I imagine a hearty Duke might, good books, people who are passionate about what they do as long as it's not killing children and the like, train drivers making humorous announcements, Thingumajigsaw, Hungamunga, Essie Shephard, most 60's TV, umbrellas blowing inside out, prime numbers, really old penguin classics, Father Ted, trees, cakes, bed, fairy lights, painting, vintage clothes, bouncy castles, normal castles, people who give you travelcards when they've finished with them, staying up far too late, Spaced, torches, green tea, cheese, hats, nice old analogue things, postcards, old people slow dancing (especially if the man is wearing medals), medals, BBC7, 6music, my new macbook, the book "Everything Is Illuminated", very short or very long text messages, Napoleon Dynamite, origami, the Flaming Lips, Pavement, Jeffrey Lewis, old negatives of people you don't remember having met, graph paper, the 1990 ITV adaptation of "Castle of Adventure", Brian Blessed, End of the Road Festival, The Doctor Who Quiz Book of Dinosaurs, about 42% of the internet, badges, Resonance FM, Sherlock Holmes books, history, theatre and when people say lines they've subconciously borrowed from films, eg: "I needed that like I need a hole in the head!" Hello there. Now that myspace is so "square" i don't really update this page too much. But there may still be things of interest. For example the night i run in Stoke Newington and my double act etc. I mean, I still do all these things, so go for it!
If you don't already know me, well, I'm a stand-up and sketch comedian working in the growing alternative comedy scene in London. I'm one half of double-act "Tommy & the Weeks" with Ed Weeks (27) and together we are "gloriously surreal" (the guardian) which is nice to know. I run a night of indie comedy and painting in Stoke Newington, North London every month called Captain Dude & The Dude Patrol, details on the myspace link below. I also presented a show on Resonance 104.4FM with Terry Saunders called "Indie Cops" (27) link also below. To be honest, I have too many myspace pages, and i don't even know how to change this to a comedy one to put up my gigs, but they might be/should be on my website, www.tombell.org. (they aren't)
I've been doing stand up for just over 4 years. My first solo show "the lost tapes of tom bell" in which I interviewed tapes of myself aged 7 (whilst the audience painted me and ate crumpets) became a sleeper hit at the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe; a "hot show" pick in The Scotsman and described by The Guardian as "a truly high-quality show... It's meticulous and sweet... contextualised by good jokes and perfect timing"
Away from all these slightly dull quotes, I am essentially a man made up of bits of other people and things I have read and heard and sensed for myself but often come to understand through my immediate surroundings. (hey, aren't we all? right?) I live in London, a city which in 1666 got pretty badly burnt but was lovingly restored, though later got bombed a lot and is now home to over 2,000 people
So, OK, thanks for stopping by and hopefully see you at a dude patrol soon. Ace

hey thanks Tom! not always sure whether one can take a compliment from a comedian at face value (you might be setting yourself up for a joke!) but I do appreciate it. best of luck and hope to see you around. tt
