Carroll, Tom, guitarist; b. Columbus, Ohio, 29 September 1950. He moved to New York City in March 1961. He presently lives in Granville, Ohio where he lives with his wife Joy and two sons, Alex and Ian.
Tom began playing guitar at 15 after hearing The Beatles. He attended Bishop Loughlin and John Adams High Schools in NY. Attended S.U.N.Y. BINGHAMTON. He studied guitar with Carl Thompson and Dennis Sandole and he studied theory and arranging with Dave Wheeler.
His jazz trio,ORGANIC CHEMISTRY,has been together since 1979. he co-led the group with jazz legend Hank Marr and the great Jim Rupp on drums.
He has also played with Brother Jack McDuff, Bobby Pierce, Rusty Bryant, Junior Cook, Ernie Watts, Marvin Stamm, Jimmy Heath, Gary Carney, Gene Bertoncini, Jack Wilkins, Cal Collins, Gene Walker, David "Fathead" Newman, Jeff Coffin,Eddie Daniels,The Gene Walker/Eric Gale Band.
He taught guitar at The Ohio State University (1977-1993), Capital University (1981-82) and since 1980 he has taught guitar and is the Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. At Denison, he has established The Denison Jazz Guitar Festival (1997) which is a three-day event on the campus featuring concerts and clinics.
As a member of the acoustic group BASS FIDDLE, He has toured Brazil and performed with symphonies in the U.S.A.
