Bio
after being student and teacher for two years, we both thought it would be great to make a two piano record together - exploring our similar taste in composition and improvising. we both contributed 4 songs each to the album, 3 of which are up here. 'Fireplace' is Kits, 'Knuckle the Lizard' is Toms, and 'Golden' is Kits. our mutual friend josh blackmore also joined us for a bit of the recording too....we hope you like it.................................................................................................................... (Kit) - am studying at the royal academy of music (where im taught by tom cawley). i am lucky enough to play with empirical, troyka, martin speake, calum gourlay, james maddren, josh morrison, zhenya strigalev and clark tracy and have played with joe locke, seb rochford, asaf sirkis, gilad atzmon, gerard presencer, stan sulzman, jeff williams, james allsop and eugene skeef. i have also performed with fraud, acoustic ladyland, nostalgia 77, 2000 black, silhouette brown, asaf sirkis and the inner noise, and dennis rollins’ badbone and co. myself and mica recorded in abbey road earlier this year and played at the sonar music festival ’07 in barcelona. i also have a piano trio with amazing people/musicians - calum gourlay and james maddren................................................................................................................. (Tom) - Apart from Curios, I'm a freelance piano player and play keyboards with Acoustic Ladyland. I've appeared with lots of UK jazz people (that look a bit silly in a long list) in lots of places (that look a bit silly in a long list). I won't list them. I've co-written songs with some people who don't look silly in a long list, namely Gwyneth Herbert (OK, the name looks a bit silly), Joy Rose, Tammy Weis and Louise Griffiths. I also write some electronic music and record myself singing, but this is strictly for my own personal consumption. Every Wednesday I become a professor of Aural Training & Transcription at the Royal Academy of Music, which is fun and involves singing in four-part dirge. They sometimes let me take an ensemble, which becomes a highlight of my life, as the standard of musician kids there is unbelievable. The future of jazz is safe, let me tell you. I've also got two beautiful children, Joseph and Greta.................................................................................................................... -
