Nothing But Mad Love Energy, SOULdiers! It's me, Tom E.. I pronounce it...Tommie. I was named for my parents' best friend...Tommie. He was a Black man in Dallas who was crazy in love with an Italian lady. From what I recall as an impressionable, socratic Virgo male seed, society wasn't ready for that visual. People bugged out & disapproved. But, here's what's really good, fam. The Black man from Texas (Tommie) & the Italian lady let their love for each other show and flow. It didn't matter how many lips dropped & eyes popped. As for me? I ate my name sake's attitude up like I devour my favorites; collard greens & sushi. As for my parents' (Carrie and Curtis) take on the situation, "To hell with what society thought" of their amourously progressive friends. That's puttng it nicely. LOL! Mama's & Daddy's passion was to provide their male seed, me, Tom E. Morgan, with much love, sweet soul music, siblings who were singers, a lot of church and even more damn collard greens! That's what was up back in the day of protest, poli-tricks & one man's determination to express himself as he chose. Flashbacks of back in the day is the soul inspiration for my writing and singing...
Now, I'm a Brooklyn man. Living here almost twenty years! I provided the original songs for the short film, BADMAN, directed & produced by Tony Vinto & written by Ed Shockly. Check out the new web site & trailer at (www.badmanfilm.com)!
"Tell A Phone" and "A Lover's Storm (Ooh, Na, Na, Na)" can be heard in this film which is, coincidentally, about a young singer who stayed true to the game. These two joints are lifted from my up coming debut cd, TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT, due to drop into your iTunes on Dutch Cemistry/Uncle Doc Records soon!
All original songs' vocals were written, arranged, produced & sung by me. I love doing my own background vocals. However, I had the rare opportunity to get back into the studio with my sister from God, Sandra, whom I grew up singing with in Dallas! We collaborated on my arrangement of Marvin's "What's Going On". Grammy award nominee, Tom Hammer from The Family Stand (band) performed & produced this crazy throw back beat. The official-sounding beats for "Hey Boo" and "Tell A Phone" [from the short film BADMAN] are from my mentors, BEAT ROYALTY. This here groundbreaking Hip Hop/ Soul production team from Rotterdam, Holland is fire! Lastly, the sickest of beats as in "This O" along with "A Lover's Storm" (Ooh Na, Na, Na) [from the short film BADMAN], "Live It Down", "Soul Eloquence" (9:03 PM) and the title track, "Tell Me What U Want" (I Ain't Psychic) are by a young up incoming talent from Flatbush, Brooklyn. POLITICK. Every song's vocals were recorded, engineered, co-produced and co-mixed by Eddie Scissors at his 20/20 AUDIO LAB STUDIO in Park Slope, Brooklyn...
I have to say that I've been fortunate, given my performance and travel experiences, by singing with the likes of Johnnie Taylor, Me'Lisa Morgan Sabrina Starke (Intro: "He Is" from Yellow Brick Road) and the one and only, Sandra St. Victor. I, Tom E. Morgan, was humbled to have opened for Lenny Kravitz and D'Influence at the Zofingen, Heitere Open Air Festival in Switzerland. I've had the pleasure of performing in New York, Amsterdam, Germany, Switzerland & back to where it all jumped off, my birthplace, Dallas. But, like the lyric in "This O" from my debut joint, TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT exclaims, "I Ain't Never Felt Like This Before!"
