"If you need comparisons, think So-Cal Country Rock of the early-70s, a la The Eagles, but that doesnt mean it sounds dated. Its quite the opposite, as this is one of the freshest sounding releases to hit this year. Thats why KPIG, KZRC, Morehead State Public Radio, KFAN, KAXE and KRCL were the first in."

"Often it seems the best practioners of roots-rock are those who tread a line between solid songcraft and punkish abandon. By that measure, Tom Gillam ranks high indeed"
" Gillam sounds like a man reveling in the knowledge that he's hitting his stride as an artist. The main ingredients in his arsenal - walls of rhythm guitar, radio-friendly vocal harmonies, stinging slide work, and a rebellious spirit-are there"

"Gillams sound will give the listener a good idea of how fun he and his band can be live. This is good-time music, while still giving a nod to concern. This disc is a definite winner for the party-hardy crowd." Reviewer: Matt Merta

Shake My Hand Review
Take Country Back
" Tom serves up a tasty brew of Americana country-rock that's anchored in classic 70s era southern/country rock influences that includes everyone from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to the Eagles to Skynyrd to the Allman Brothers and just about everyone in-between. He combines his skilled slide guitar work with touches of steel guitar, fiddle, mandolin and nicely done harmonies to deliver his well crafted self-penned songs"
"Tom Gillam possesses a warm, pleasing voice and while his songs show he's strongly influenced by the 70s era southern/country-rockers, he's most assuredly not an imitator nor is it the typical watered down sanitized version of the real thing Nashville's been offering up over the last decade or so. He's got a style of his own, with strong, well crafted songwriting. What really pushes Tom over the top is his excellent slide guitar work and the stellar musicianship of his backing band Tractor Pull"

"Gillam's rootsy brew is barroom-ready enough for those who remember GTB's paint-peeling Khyber and Silk City sets from back in the day, yet literary enough for those who prefer their twang tempered with WXPN sensitivity and politeness"

" His songs are top-notch and he can bring it down for some nice country ballads too. This is rock label Gotham's first foray into the Americana format and I think they found a real winner in Gillam."

"Slide guitarist Tom Gilliam fits that broad Americana segment occupied by everyone from Sonny Landreth to John Hiatt. His first national release is a listenable collection of swamp boogie songs filtered with a few slower crooners"

All Music Guide
" What might set this artist apart from the pack, however, is his songcraft -- most noticeable on the title track, which has just the right balance of guitar crunch, winning melody, and manly anguish. Dallas bears the influence of the long history of roots rock success stories, from The Flying Burrito Brothers to the Allman Brothers to Tom Petty to the Jayhawks It's wise to file this under highly likable"

Tom Gillam Bio 2009-2010
“The edgier side of Americana coupled with a healthy dose of 70’s guitar rock” is how one magazine described Tom Gillam’s music and that’s not too far off the mark. In a career that spans five studio releases and one live album, Gillam has carved out a special place in popular music he can easily call his own. His brilliant songwriting, whiskey tenor voice, and stinging slide guitar have become well known, not only to his fans here in the United States but also, in recent years, to audiences in Europe as well. His brand new album “Had Enough?” opens a new chapter in this remarkable musician’s story.
Co-produced by long time friend & producer Joe Carroll and recorded after Tom relocated from Philadelphia to his new home in Austin TX, “Had Enough?” has a decidedly ‘Texas feel’ to it; due largely to the addition of some talented Austin friends. Joining the musical line up this time out are former Alejandro Escovado guitarist Alan Durham, bassist Michael “Cornbread” Traylor (Billy Joe Shaver, Bruce Robison) and drummer Vicente Rodriguez (Sisters Morales), along with guest spots by Ed Jurdi (Band of Heathens), Guy Forsyth, and singer/songwriter Penny Jo Pullus. Add this potent mix to Gillam’s regular backing band Tractor Pull, and it becomes obvious that this record is something special.
Fans of Gillam’s previous CD’s will not be disappointed by this latest effort. “Had Enough?” contains plenty of what now has become Tom’s calling card; catchy Ameri-Pop melodies and walls of rock guitar, lyrically however, it seems he may have become comfortable enough with both himself and his audience to open up a bit more . This may be attributed, in part, to the 2006 heart-attack Tom survived and his subsequent clean & sober lifestyle that followed. Finding the deeper meanings in lyrics of heartfelt songs like “Ready to Begin” and “Good Morning” may be quite easy; other tracks, however, like “Tear in the Rain”, “Weary Game”, or the aching “(When you) Come Around” might seem, on the surface, like ‘pop song 101’, but closer scrutiny finds Gillam mining areas that take on a whole new level of depth.
That’s not to say the guy who once wrote he lived his life a little “Outside the Lines” doesn’t still ‘rock’. The opening track and single “Real Thing” (co written by Tractor Pull alum. Craig Simon) hits his listeners with a one /two punch of Texas R&R that’s as hard as any of Gillam’s previous work. Propelled by a new found sense of urgency that can be attributed to the addition of his Austin compatriots, Real Thing is all that Tom Gillam was and will be, packed into a four minute rock jam. The rest of “Had Enough?” is peppered with Gillam and band rocking at the top of their game. The swampy grooves of “Ride”, the hard hitting title track “Had Enough”, and even the whimsical tunes like “She was a dancer…” and “Nothing” have an intensity that may have been only hinted at on earlier CD’s but have now come to full fruition.
A change in zip code, a change in lifestyle, and a change in attitude have brought Tom Gillam to this place in time and his future seems as endless as a Texas skyline. Perhaps Allmusic.com put it best when they advised listeners to” file Tom Gillam under highly recommended”.
I’ve been a music journalist for more than 10 years. Over the years, many artists and managers have asked me what the best way to break into the European music market is.
Here are some things you can do:
Publish artist press releases, news, and tour dates to the CountryHome Forum on MySpace, http://groups.myspace.com/CountryHomeMagazine , CountryHome Forum is part of CountryHome, http://www.CountryHome.de , Germany's Premier Country Music Online Magazine. Everything you publish to the CountryHome Forum will be published in my weekly Newsletter which has over 80,000 readers.
Send me CDs and DVDs for review and set up an artist interview with me. All reviews and interviews will be submitted to the magazines I'm writing for.
Upload artist videos to http://www.MyVideo.de and http://www.ClipFish.de . Both websites are like http://www.YouTube.com and uploading videos is free. The websites are completely in German. If you don’t speak German and need assistance, I will help you open an account and upload a video for 25 Euro. Each additional video upload for the same artist name and at the same video website is 10 Euro.
If you have more questions about the European music market or about any of the information I send to you today, please contact me at Ch.Lamitschka@t-online.de too.
