Mississippi-born, Atlanta-bred. Musically obsessed. Protestant. Loves people and animals. Politically conservative, compositionally deranged. Exercises in order to enjoy food. Optimistic and somewhat-reality-based. Heterosexual.

Led a popular band in Atlanta during the mid-80s and early 90s called Tom Grose & The Varsity which received lots of radio airplay, scads of press and quite a bit of national television exposure. Consistently played to sold-out houses. Won numerous awards. Played and sang on countless albums. Recorded with Will Lee, Hamish Stuart, Steve Ferrone, Slave, Michael Brecker, Lou Marini, Steve Khan, Anthony Jackson, Al Kooper, David Martin, Howard Tate, Jerry Ragovoy, Jai Johanny Johanson, Rodney Mills, Danny Chauncey, Dan Huff, Trudy Lynn, Blues Boy Willie, Johnny Van Zant, Babbie Mason, Francine Reed and Third Day. Wrote the theme song for and performed in the first NBA music video with the Atlanta Hawks. Made the semifinals on "StarSearch." Won the $100,000 Grand Prize on "You Write The Songs." Wrote the score for "Rockin' To The Pointe," the first rock & roll ballet performed by The Atlanta Ballet at the Atlanta Civic Center during two seasons in 1989 and 1991. Sang and played on many national and regional radio and television commercials. Was the voice of the Dow Scrubbing Bubbles' New Trigger Sprayer. Sang about the wonders of banking, mortar mixes and food. Should be rich, but has a slight aversion to self-promotion. Would like to stop smoking and has indeed cut back somewhat. Enjoys coffee, doesn't drink alcohol, take drugs or smoke weed. Never felt better.

If you'd like to download one of my recent albums, click on the picture:

Has played live with (meaning: has performed on the same stage at the exact same time as) the following musical persons: David Sanborn, Jack Bruce, Al Kooper, Lew Soloff, Little Milton, Joe Sample, Oteil Burbridge, Glenn Hughes, Derek Trucks, Latimore, Sonny Emory, The Uptown Horns, Branford Marsalis, Howard Tate and Omar Hakim, and also with other people, including Jon Chalden.

Likes almost everything ever released by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Allman Brothers Band, Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, NRBQ, The Young Rascals, Gentle Giant, Luther Vandross, David Sanborn, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, George Duke, Todd Rundgren, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Yes, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Louis Prima, Led Zeppelin, XTC, Steely Dan, Little Feat, Captain Beefheart, The Spinners, Smokey Robinson And The Miracles and Marvin Gaye.

Also enjoys quite a bit of what Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Duke Ellington, George Jones, ZZ Top, Dizzy Gillespie, Tower Of Power, Sly And The Family Stone, The Animals, Martha And The Vandellas, Al Kooper, Joni Mitchell and Count Basie have done.

Currently gigging with The Rupert's Orchestra, The Mike Veal Band and anyone else who calls. Call.

What has happened to the music business in the last twenty-five years is a travesty. Go global or sink.

I guess if I'm truly to become a member of the MySpace community, I should repeat/reinforce the gist of our earlier phone conversation,
for all to sit in judgement of... I'm totally digging your new tunes, and am totally looking forward to playing them in our new Supergroup - "Further Reprisals"!
There-I said it!!

I just realized that I never said Happy Birthday in my last message! I hope you had a wonderful day and that this year brings much success - but, most of all, much happiness and joy!

So, do any musicians have "normal" lives? I'm working on 4 shows presently - should be slowing down instead of getting busier, but it hasn't worked that way. Sure wish I could see you.
I trust that everything is absolutely wonderful with you!

Really enjoyed playing with you last Tuesday and I am looking forward to tonight. Love the new material from "Music For Television". Hopefully we will play together many more times and not wait 15+ years to do so.

Peace and great grooves,
George

Tom, I have heard your name for years but just heard you play for the first time on a video done in Dec 07. TOP What is Hip. You were killer and nailed it. Not a trivial task for one person.. to replace the keyboards and horn section on a TOP tune! Keep on kickin! Wes
