| Heroes | Jim Casy was inspirational to Tom. Tom was bothered by Casy talking while Casy was alive, but after Casy died Tom rememebered everything Casy said and decided to take Casy's place. One of the things Casy preched to Tom was part of some Scripture. It goes, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lif' up his fellow, but woe to him that is alone when he falleth, for he hath not another to help him up." |

About me:
Tom was sent to prison for 7 years for murdering a man, but got out after 4 on parole for good behavior. He met Jim Casy and invited him to go along to California with the Joads. Tom hurt a guy but Casy took the blame so Tom wouldn't go back to prison for breaking his parole. Tom listened to Casy a lot and when someone killed Casy, Tom killed that man and went into hiding. When Casy died, Tom decided to take his place. He wanted to unify everyone like Casy had. He believed that if people stuck together they could get further than one person could. Tom was a very strong person in the Joad family. He was like Ma, in the way that most everyone looked up to him.
