Most everything and everyone I have come into contact with, in one way or another. Including:
Calvin and Hobbes, Airplane the movie, Carlos Casteneda, and people who strive towards positive ideals.
Musically speaking...
The rhythms of R&B, the attitude of ROCK, the feeling of the Blues, the improvisation associated with jazz, the synergy and interplay of The Allman Brothers, and the space of The Meters.
Sounds Like
Bass trying to get everyone to work in harmony, with a thump-thump-thuggidee-thump-bump
Though a literal translation of the instrument Tom plays, electric bass has become an analogy of the synergy experienced when a unit is ON. This is the electric bass Tom seeks. Tom has a theory that people are like musical notes. Each has their own frequency and there are limited frequencies. Putting those frequencies together creates a chord and each person affects the overall "tone" of the group. Though a rhythm person at heart, Tom thrives on harmony and the possibilities different people can create. Pursuing the possibilities is what Tom enjoys about making music.
Over the last 15 years Tom Martin’s solid pocket, strong ears, and strong work ethic has earned his reputation as a premier bassist and first call sideman. Residing in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Boston, and (currently) New England, Tom has toured regionally and nationally as a member of a number of bands, freelancing for dozens of artists, and working with hundreds of musicians. Having at least 2,000 performances under his belt in bars, clubs, theaters, arenas, and festivals, to audiences as large as 25,000, Tom has worked with many different levels of production and has experience working in ensembles ranging from acoustic duos and power trios to bands with horn sections and ensembles with multiple bassists and drummers, performing in many styles such as blues, R&B, rock, country, folk/bluegrass, hip-hop, jazz, and metal.
Recently, Tom’s solid foundation and strong harmonic support has given flight to The Chris Fitz Band’s hard driving blues style. His syncopation and smooth groove helped bring the dancers in every week to cut a rug with Mr Nick and Friends and The Queen City Kings and Tom’s work with the R&B outfit Rhythm Method has helped extend the band’s ability to improvise and merge with the vibe of the room. Additionally he can be seen on occasion providing the thump for The Dirty Tricks and Jeremy Lyons.
Hope you can make it this wed (dec 16) to the 4th annual x-mas blues bash and jam at Jakes in Waltham MA. Make sure you bring your bass and do some playing!! Nick moss will be playing the house set with us! Tons of players are coming down! Hope to see you! -Matt

Well, hope you had a great week-end. Me, I enjoyed my day off (Monday) immensely, after Sat & Sun doubles... Can't bitch tho - I do what I am, and I love it ! Peace, BB
