So few words, so much to rave about. Astonishing. Buy it. Clever. Dazzling. Engaging. Felice Brothers. Genius. Humorous. Iron & Wine. Jayhawks. Kiwi classic. Love (as in, I'm in). Mesmerising. No 1. Observant. Poetic. Quintessential. Repeat play. Springsteen. Thanks. Uplifting. Vital. Wry. X-factor. Yes, yes, yes. Zero filler. In 35 years of reviewing music, this is the best album I have ever heard by a bunch of Kiwi musicians. i Pod essential: Cushions." Mike Alexander, Sunday Star Times (5 stars) ..."This album is sure to perk up anyone who is cynical about the talent of New Zealand songwriters ...reminiscent of Neil Young's dishevelled early days... There is a true originality and heartfelt meaning to these songs...clever melodies, soulful harmonies and odd lyrics." Alice Cowdrey, The Press (4 stars) ..."Listen to Isolation is the New Party and I’d be surprised if the hooks aren’t still running through your head days later." Nick Bollinger, Listener

Hi Tommy, I loved recording with you and think of it often even though it was about 2 years ago! If you ever think you might like me on some harmonies again please do not hesitate to ask! Peace and love xx

    Tommy!

Not sure if you remember me from the CD and DVD Store in New Plymouth (Now known as Marbecks).
You came into the store and we had a chat.

Went home and found out you are close friends with Graeme Frasier from up in Coromandel where my whanau used to live.

Also saw you guys are playing Parihaka again which is awesome.
Hope to see you there :)

Bio:

Keep your eyes peeled, and your ears to the ground, here comes another album. We're embroiled in the mixing process and this 26 track behemoth of beautiful songs is something we're getting to be pretty proud of. With this record we hope to break into the mass consciousness of New Zealand’s, if not the world’s, music loving public. Thanks for all unwavering support from our admittedly eclectic demographic, we'll keep it up as long as you're all around for a taste. See you on the road! Clip, clop, clip, clop, clip, clop, clip, clop, clip, clop, clip, clop, clip, clop... THE HISTORY: Fresh from releasing two summer albums through good old LOOP RECORDS, Tommy Benefield and his 'Reggae/Folk Rock Extravaganza' (collectively known as TOMMY) hung up their hats and disappeared into the mist. For a while, nothing stirred, save for a few lonesome hippies, howling at the moon. Then out of the haze (non-narcotic, we promise) came a new entity. Tommy was still at the helm, but everything was somehow... different. This was new, tantalizing. It was ready to take the world by storm. It was... TOMMY AND THE FALLEN HORSES. *tommyandthefallenhorses.com* A band site that sets a new standard for indie websites with all the usual bells and whistles such as photos, lyrics, tour info, video clips etc. Our new site also allows people to join up and get free fortnightly downloads of exclusive demos. It also boasts interactive blog, podcast, film and photo pages where fans can download there own media on to the site. Chat-rooms are still being developed as are a bunch of special features for members (membership is free) and on top of that smorgasbord of delights, Tommy’s albums (including Isolation) are available for purchase or download direct from the website. 'Isolation is the New Party' is Tommy’s finest to date with Benefield finally free to explore the genres of music most meaningful to him. The album sounds like a cross between Neil Young’s ‘After the Gold Rush’ mixed with The Rolling Stones ‘exile on Main St’ with a little of Nick Cave's ‘The Boatman’s Call’ thrown in for good measure. While Isolation has a very indie feel to it and would certainly lend itself to the alternative section of certain record stores, the raw ingredients of the album is good old fashioned rock, pop, folk and country and the backbone is singer-songwriter. The upcoming singles (listen out for CUSHIONS and BABE I'M JUST SCARED), while being unique and slightly quirky have mass appeal. The intimate acoustic shows that Tommy and the Fallen Horses have become known for feature rustic melodic harmonies, evocative lyrics and emotive and emotional musicianship. Fallen Horses guitarist Finn Johansson’s fluid lead guitar finger picking and harmonies integrate seamlessly into Tommy Benefield’s stunning voice and captivating lyrics. Reminiscent of Bonnie Prince Billy’s ‘Superwolf’ collaboration with Matt Sweeny, or Gillian Welch’s 'Time the Revelator' album with David Rawlings. Tommy and Finn, with their Laurel-Canyon-in-the-70’s sensibilities, cast an alt-country, indie-pop spell like no other. Acts that have graced us with their presence on the bill include: Trinity Roots, John Butler Trio, Salmonella Dub, Donovan Frankenreiter, Fly My Pretties, Odessa, Rhombus, The Phoenix Foundation, Fat Freddy's Drop, Minuit, Hollie Smith, Jess Chambers, The Black Seeds, Cornerstone Roots, Tim Guy & Steve Able, among others. Tommy has played on the main stage at: Parihaka, Cuba St Carnival, Whooper Chopper, Visions, Rhythm and Vines, Taranaki wine and food festival, Canaan Downs Festival, Nelson New Years 2009/10 Auckland Bands in the Parks and First night (Aotea Square, new years eve). All 3 albums were in the independent top 10 and '4000 Years' received a nomination at the b-net awards. After the Grin-worthy Sunday Star Times ***** review of Isolation, online album sales spiked to the tune of knocking Madonna off her spot at #1, if only for an hour or two. Still, cool! Tommy has completed several sold-out tours in NZ and performed in USA and throughout Europe. Tommy has had several songs on high rotate on dozens of stations nationwide as well as on C4 and Juice TV.
