2009 kicked off in fine style with Tom bringing in the first sunrise of the New Year to a crowd of one thousand plus at Universo Paralello, arguably the best new years party in the world. Located on the edge of a rain forest overlooking the Atlantic Ocean this set marking the start of a very special year for DJ and producer Tom Real.
Tom Real DJ Set New Years Day Morning @ Universo Paralello 9 Part I
Inspired by the same festival the previous year Tom has moved away from the break beat past and is forging ahead with a new tech-fuelled house and progressive sound, as Tom describes it ‘music to be played outdoors and preferably on very loud sound systems’ Tom will continue to produce tech funk and electro bangers with long time collaborator and friend The Rogue Element under their new ‘Disco Of Doom’ guise.
Back to the rave… last year was an amazing year as not only did Tom find his new groove but he also played major slots at four of the biggest festivals on the planet. Kick-starting with the Universo Paralello 07/08 on Pratigi Beach in Brazil via international dates taking in Spain, China, Romania and the Czech Republic alongside a hectic UK schedule. Tom launched his summer festival season DJ’ing at Eastern Europe’s wildest beach party, the five-week mega rave that is The KaZantip Festival. Two weeks later he blew apart Portugal’s week-long Boom festival DJing to a packed dance floor from inside the mouth of a giant whale. Tom then headed straight to the festival to end all festivals - The Burning Man in the Nevada Desert where Tom performed to a crowd of five thousand plus on the festival’s largest sound system the spectacular Opulent Temple.
Studio-wise Tom is busy working on his new tech-house / progressive project and with an arsenal of new music waiting in the wings featuring collaborations with like-minded friends and artists such as Fake Hero, Dylan Rhymes, Hamish and Gaudi as well as his own solo productions which he has spent the last two years refining. The first track to be completed from this new project titled ‘Boxed In’ (below) is drawing support from the likes of King Roc, Hernan Cattaneo, Moguai, James Monro, Dimitri Nakov, Dom Kane, Timo Garcia, Tim Davison, Dopamine and Tania Von Pear from an initial taster mail out which sets the pace for things to come.
As mentioned above Tom is also working with long-time friend and collaborator The Rogue Element under their ‘Disco Of Doom ‘guise, an electro project who’s first release ‘Disco Of Doom EP1’ featuring ‘The Click’ and ‘Loud & Clear’ on Passenger Records has won them support from DJs like AutoKratz, Annie Nightingale, Acid Jacks, Miles Dyson and DJ Hyper amongst a long list of others and with headline gigs not only in the UK but in Amsterdam and Helsinki, the duo are currently completing their second release expected to drop shortly.
So this looks set to be another busy year for Tom Real as he continues to raise the profile of both projects with a busy studio schedule with plenty of collaborations and solo work planned for the first half of the year. -wise, Tom is already confirmed for two major festivals (more details to be announced when events go live) and with a steady stream of gig offers coming in, Tom’s diary is filling up fast.
oi oi :) thanks for bringing a new year to us on that lovely place called paradise with the first sun of 2009 coming from the sea and a crowd of people cheering up and me taking pictures and a bit stressed cause I JUST WANTED TO DANCE!! - you still owe me a caipirinha for that :):) nice track - parallel universe, by the way - WE WANT MORE!!
Yo! Yes i'm really looking forward to the 14th ... I've never been to Plymouth before and I've got no idea how i'm going to get there but i'll worry about it nearer the time! I'm living back in ireland at the mo so i'll have to navigate my way over the Irish sea. I met up with Damo at the last lot49 party and he asked me to come and play. All my dj stuff is currently back in england so i still have to sort out transporting it back which is turning into a logistical nightmare :-Z
That Hexstatic video is awesome, the man is genius. I caught his AV set at glasto this year and was totally blown away by it, it must take so much preparation to put something like that together. It was at the silent disco on the very last night. I was by myself and danced until my legs couldn't take any more! Do you have your ticket sorted for 2009?
As I told you, I like so much the way you play black metal that it gave me an idea : I toke samples from the very first album of Metallica. And you know what ? It f=cking works, so... Thank you...
