About me: I grew up in Cleveland, OH, with my mother, father, and three siblings. I spent my first two years of undergrad at Menlo College in Atherton, CA. In the fall of 1967 I transferred to University of Colorado in Boulder, where I graduated in 1970.Next, I spent a year in the Army Reserves. At 22, I decided to continue on my grandfather’s path and go into the jewelry business. A year later, the Shane Co. was born.
I have spent the past 37 years of my life working on the company, trying to make each day a success. I love traveling, and I spend about half of my year abroad, and as my radio ads suggest, much of that time is spent in Bangkok, Thailand. I find Bangkok fascinating, both culturally and geographically. Over the years, I have acquired an interest in Asian philosophy and religion, and enjoy observing, contemplating, and discussing the cultural differences between the East and West.
Despite my reputation, I am a laid back person who enjoys spending any down time with my three children. In the past year, much to my delight, my two oldest have both come on board at the Shane Co., and are helping to continue the family tradition.
I enjoy skiing, I love sports cars and collector’s cars, and I like cooking. I also enjoy going out to late, long dinners, where I take pleasure in getting to know people, soaking up new atmospheres, and tasting fine wines. Many people believe that I am uptight, but, thanks mostly to my children, I try my best to maintain a relaxed personality, and enjoy spending my days doing what I love most. People often criticize me for being a workaholic, but I find that I am the best person I can be when I am doing what I love, and my business is my number one passion.
Who I'd like to meet: Considering I am new to Myspace, I am not fully aware of who all is out there to meet. However, I am always interested in talking to people who are interested in the jewelry business, as well as business in general. I want to meet people who think I do well at my job, as well as critics and people with suggestions. I would love to hear from past customers, potential customers, and lost customers.
I also would like to hear from other individuals who spend their lives in the public eye, and those who can’t stand celebrities. I am an open-minded individual, and am always open to constructive criticism and listening to those who might help me improve myself. If you believe you might be one of those people, I'd like to hear from you.
last month when you were in the store here in SLC, it was a pleasure to get a chance to sit down at dinner and really talk to you and get to know you. we're looking forward to the next couple days before x-mas.
