tone arm: n. 1. The free-swinging arm of a phonograph that holds the pick up and allows the needle to follow the groove of the record.
Tone Arm are not revivalists; maybe revisionists. A fondness for tape hiss, tube amps, reverb, slap-back echo, and the satisfying *pop* of the needle first hitting the vinyl yields a unique sound that filters jangly sixties pop, soul ballads, bluesy rave-ups, psychedelic freak-outs, spy movie soundtracks, surf music, and rockabilly into a strange brew of "cinematic rock and roll".
The band formed in 2003. A three song EP containing "Poor Mia", "No Reply", and "Now She's Gone" was recorded in March of 2004, followed by an appearance at the D-Pollen Festival in May of that year. Tone Arm has performed regularly in and around Detroit at venues such as Magic Stick, Jacoby's, Small's, The Belmont, The New Dodge, Berkley Front, Club Bart, the Elbow Room, the Garden Bowl, and the Royal Oak Music Theater.
Stayed Tuned for show dates to see Tone Arm live (and maybe even some new recordings).
