TONE (Zhong Wei Jun) is a new Mandarin singer and songwriter in the Taiwanese music scene. At the ripe age of 22 (as of 2006), he has already delved in many musical settings.
TONE was born in Texas, USA and later moved to San Jose, California where he received a Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering in 2007. From recording acoustic guitar tracks on a 4-track recorder in the 9th grade to performing in alternative rock bands in high school, TONE has been honing his drive for music songwriting and production for many years. Upon winning a Chinese music competiton in 2002, TONE began pursuing the art of pop and hip-hop production. His influences include Radiohead, The Beatles, John Lennon, Kanye West, and X Japan. From 2002-2006, TONE devoted much time and thought to crafting his debut Mandarin album, titled "My 6:57AM". TONE's "My 6:57AM" was released in July 2006.
TONE's first single, "6:57AM", immediately attracted many new fans and received industry acclaim. The song was written (music and lyrics) by TONE; in 6:57AM, TONE describes in his own words the various phases of his musical journey as well as his philosophies on life. A week later, TONE's ballad, titled "Purple Ring", hit the airwaves and also became a favorite of many new fans. In this song, TONE incorporates a tape-rewinding sample to symbolize the song's time-travel-love-story theme. Another popular tune,"The Deepest Heart", is a stripped-down acoustic ballad that demonstrates TONE's guitar skill and raw vocal talent.
