hip hop from the 80's and some from the 90's, lately only certain styles of hip hop like backpacker shit and expiremental stuff coming from labels like Anticon, Stones Throw, RSE, def jux, doomtree, crushkill and hecatomb. Some other expiremental sounds from artists like Prefuse 73, dalek, daedlus, dabrye, gonzales, awesome mark and epic distortions. Sound collage is interesting, mash up if its done really well or horribly bad. Some electronic stuff, mostly from the 90's and less danceable so much as just envigorating like Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher... Finally getting into lyrical and vocal signer/songwriter stuff like Bright Eyes, Cat Power, Fiest. Big into local MPLS and st.paul shit like Building Better Bombs, Fog, Mute Era, Abzorbr (check that shit out), Carnage, Digitata, Dessa. Not sure if Acadia still has tuesday nights, but saw some interesting improvisational music there by an Andrew Broder project called Heat Death. Some internet radio shows I like are Some Assembly Required, The breezeblock and blue room on BBC. I am a music junkie.geek and love to talk about it.
Movies
Big movie.geek too, I like to find movies no one has heard about and try them out. Sometimes it doesn't pay off, but most of the time I find some great nuggets. A few favorites are Safe Men, American Job and American Movie, anything with Bill Mother Fucking Murray, The crossing gaurd, the game, 42nd street forever, serenity, tree's lounge. I love the work oof directors like David Fincher, Jim jarmusch, Tarantino (sort of still) Rodriguez, Buscemi... Some crazy local shit by City Council Productions, Other actors and actresses I like are catherine keener, buscemi, walken, paul rudd, ed norton, maggie glylnhall (however the shit you spell her name... secretary was hotness) will farell, and I forgot to mention i love 84% of woodie allen movies. Also love to talk/trivia movies so bring your game.
Television
Love/hate with TV right now. But here are some good shows: The office (US and Brit), six feet under, deadwood, quantum leap, firefly, reno 911, wondershowzen, lost, heroes?, The Soup!, sealab, sarah silverman program, gay robot, lately I am an HD whore, will watch anything for HD, even bull riding. 80's TV is fun to bring back now and then.. Taxi, Small wonder, Threes Comp., facts of life and family MF ties for sure.
Books
Nick Hornby is the only author I follow mostly, high Fidelity started it, and A long way down was the shit. I am trying to read Dave Eggers, I do like Chuck Klosterman and Palahnuik. Emma forrest too for some reason. ALso like to read design/art/music mags like Juxtapoz, Letoile, CMJ, AP, Urb, Filter, ID, and I guess i want visionaire now too but apparently you need to be rich.
