   About T.O.F.U.

Formed in an abandoned building in Chicago, August 2003, Tons of Fun University is one of the premier North American groups to combine spoken word and music. Having performed at nearly every major folk festival in Canada, T.O.F.U. is a trio unlike any other. They are a live act that will entertain audiences of all ages and origins, while making them think.

The Vancouver Sun calls them: "Whip smart, wildly rhythmic and hilarious."

Together, they seek a certain standard and magic on stage, yet they hold the same expectations of themselves when touring solo.

Shane Koyczan is the 2000 National Poetry Slam Individual Champion, and has published poetry with House of Parlance in Vancouver, B.C. He is from Yellowknife, NWT.

C.R. Avery has toured all over Europe, the U.S. and Canada, and is a world class, unparalleled beatbox-harmonicist/singer-songwriter. He is from Kingston, Ontario.

Mike McGee is the 2003 National Poetry Slam Individual Champion and the 2006 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion, the first person ever to hold both titles. He is from San Jose, California.

T.O.F.U. has shared stages with That 1 Guy, Corb Lund, Feist, U. Utah Philips, Ani DiFranco, Maya Angelou, Tom Waits, K'naan, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Viggo Mortensen, and nearly every contemporary spoken word artist working in North America.

Tons of Fun University was the breakout hit of the 2004 Vancouver Folk Music Festival, 2005 Regina Folk Fest, and 2005 Dawson City Music Festival, 2006 Winnipeg Folk Music Festival, 2007 Folk On The Rocks, and they have been featured on CBC Radio and Television many times over.

They are booked through Mike McGee.

Just wanted to update you:

Sundown Lounge is a laid back (and often explicit, you bet your ass...) weekly podzine of music, spoken word, progressive politics, weird science, and occasional vignettes from the west coast open mic scene, etc. Physically, I'm in rapidly gentrifying downtown Los Angeles, but metaphysically, my toes are in the sand and the sun is ablaze with deep hues, and a few poets and musicians and scientists have dropped by my beach house to hang out and jam, as the surf whispers nearby...The Open Mic Stage accepts spoken word and music files for play. Hear "A True Liberator: on Friday's Archived Podcast.

Other news and goings on: 10K is accpeting submissions from poets to feature in our BLOG. If this is of interest to you, please send your poem in as a comment, in the form, with title, author, etc. We will do the rest.

Hey it's Winnipeg-Darcy. Saw you guys at like 2 in the afternoon the other week. Lyrically hillarious and musically innovative.
I'm just in a "conventional" rock band type thing right now, but if youever want to double-bill-it-up in Dub-city...

Seasoned, cut into cubes, adjacent to assort. veggies, bagged, & fried, sopping up beans with tomato sauce, or live on any festival circuit, circulating as so many busser's in the beer garden, TOFU can stay for grace, in Winnipeg, and well into the morning, let the jugglers stack the plates,

What happened? Do you remember back in the days when you went into record shops and bought vinyl? And chilled there for an hour or so! Talking to your friends and the people who worked there. What happened????
Standing in line by the record players, waiting for your turn, and taking a peak over the shoulder of the person listening, to see what they are listening to;-) I really miss those days’s man. And on the way home sitting on the train pulling out the new records to check them out!!!!! WOW those days where beautiful. Now a day’s people don’t even know what a record cover looks like!!! And hardly know more than 2 tracks off an album because it’s the hit single that plays on MTV!!! All I can say is its a pity....

Do you feel the same?
