I proudly support the following causes for humanity and artistic achievements (in no particular rhyme or reason order):
I had this information here at one time and am putting it back in. Despite some hard and painful feelings I had about how my review came to be, I still think this book is extremely worthwhile. Here is a part of my review. You can find the rest at Amazon.com:
In Richard's exploration of self, I was given a rare glimpse into an inner sanctum which explores the question, "What am I doing here in this Madhouse ... Again?", and there is not one iota of self-pity or arrogance to be found. I don't think the obsession with taping conversations or videotaping people in his attempt to clarify his own existence was born out of maliciousness (acts you will witness should you decide to take this journey). Not all obsessions are vindictive, screwed-up, or evil, even though in the reading you might be given the impression he thinks they are, or might be. The book simply is what it is: obscenely blunt, unutterably sad, wildly imaginative, artistically sensitive, fiercely intelligent, often painfully humorous ...

JOSS WHEDON - Anything he does, I am there.
Below is the post he wrote at
Whedonesque.com, sparking the creation
of the I am Dua Khalil blog.
Joss is a self-avowed atheist, yet he cares
very deeply for humanity and particularly
for the rights of women (his mother had a
hand in the creation of Equality Now).
The link below leads to an essay he wrote
about violence and misogyny. The best piece
of writing I've seen in 2007:

It is my hope that people will discover and rediscover the work of Joss Whedon. That they know that he was and is a great artist and humanitarian deeply concerned about the state of women's rights in our world. Some might say "Well, he was just an entertainer who wrote comic books and directed television series about monsters and science fiction." You couldn't be more wrong. Through his "entertainment," people have met, married, gained friendships, and explored themselves through his artistry.
What does Joss Whedon mean to me? (has stroke from sheer emotional response) Seriously though, if I said the sun, the stars and the moon, it wouldn't be too far off. Joss' work has gotten me through at least one deep depression and even when I didn't want to feel, especially more pain, I kept going back to watching Buffy and then Angel. I think those shows kept me a) human, and b) sane. Because Joss is us and we are him. He is an intellect fused with a large heart (not en-larged, just large). He's the Mozart of his age; a genius who writes for the people, not the rich and influential. It's his calling and while he must write for himself first, he shared it with us lucky mortals. And I love him for it and all the above.
And in addition to that gush from my viscera, Joss Whedon looks into the human heart and soul in a way that very few artists ever do. He's not a man you could ever call mundane. He questions why human beings do the things they do. He is curious and delving and not a little bit humorous in his examination and delight in the human condition.
Just as George Romero uses his zombies to make political statements, Joss Whedon has used demons, magic, westerns and outer space as metaphors for a young girl's journey to womanhood and all that that entails, a troubled man's journey towards redemption, and big damn heroes who sought to change the status quo in a huge universe. It's not that he doesn't want to scare us or cause us pain -- that's part of life. But through great fear, sorrow, and pain comes strength and understanding.
If you have waited to experience his artistry, wait no longer. Jump into the deep end and be rewarded exponentially.
Let me leave you with these words uttered by Mr. Whedon when he accepted his award from Equality Now: "Because, equality is not a concept. It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women. And the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who is confronted with it. We need equality ... And kinda now."
Buffy - "It's all about power; who has it and who knows how to use it."

About me: I'm an artist who has worked in offices too long and I'm looking to get out. Oh, I may work in another office but next time I want the work to be at least arts-related, while I continue my journey to ... wherever it is I can find my niche. My current goal is to get out of San Diego to somewhere far less prosaic; i.e. Los Angeles. That will take more money than I have and I pray every day something will give, because going insane is still an option.
Sometimes I do think I love writing as much as I loved acting and singing, when I had a car and could get around.
Writing has actually helped keep me sane. It provides me with an outlet for when the pressure in my head to express myself needs to go "somewhere."
I definitely want to get back to music, find a vocal coach, and also learn to play the guitar. It would be therapeutic.
And I want to fall in love with someone special. Who understands that even though I don't work as an artist yet, those are my sensibilities, and will share them.
Never say never. I've decided that I can't deny myself the possibility anymore.
Who I'd like to meet: Too many people to name ... but a few who are very special to me.

Hey there! Did you make friends with Absurda yet? Good! Can I ask you for a moment of your time right now to simply go over to their page and leave a comment stating we want the complete soundtrack to Twin Peaks released!!
We have a better chance of getting their attention if we bomb them at regular intervals.
Don't be afraid to send them a message as well as leave a comment. Here are some easy templates to use for a quick an easy way to tell them we want a complete soundtrack box set hopefully in time for the 20th anniversary of the show in April of next year.
Leave your own message or copy and paste from your choice of:
- Please can you release a COMPLETE box set soundtrack to Twin Peaks?
- Please please release all of the Twin Peaks music in one box set? Thanks!
- Is there any chance that a complete soundtrack to Twin Peaks will ever be released?
- Myself and many friends are always wondering, when are we getting the COMPLETE soundtrack to Twin Peaks??
Please consider leaving the same comment at Angelo's page as well. Thanks everyone.
Oh by the way. If you see your comment published on Absurda's page and let me know, I will email you an audio treat that will knock your socks off. Trust me on this one.
Also, it is very important to add Absurda to your friends list. Absurda is the company owned by Lynch that would most likely release a complete soundtrack box set if they knew there was enough support for it.
Thank you so much, Tonya. I haven't been online much lately. I hope everything's been going well! I still lurk over at your movie forum at least once a day. :)
