Influences
The Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Sextet performs Latin jazz classics from the 40's to contemporary times as well as original music. Influences include the music of Chano Pozo, Mongo Santamaria, Carlos "Patato" Valdez, Benny More, Cal Tjader, Poncho Sanchez, Ruben Gonzales and of course, Tito Puente. The TCLJS uses a small group jazz approach with danceability in mind at all times. The Band's ability to please listening audiences as well as those who would prefer to cha-cha-cha is a testament to their sound and great love for Latin music. The band also relies on the original tunes most recently brought in by Dave and Anders. This music reflects the band's ability to cover both African diasporic groove structures as well as straight up Salsa, Bossa Nova and Cha-Cha and will be featured on their upcoming album do for release this spring.
