I've been living in the Twin Ports area for a couple of years now, moving from Baltimore, MD, to attend school at the University of Wisconsin Superior. I was able to spend quite some time as a student of Drummers Collective, where I got a taste of the Manhattan music scene. Wanting to make that a "way of life", I researched and auditioned for entrance into Berklee School of Music in Boston MA, New School University, and Manhattan School of Music.(a school whose Jazz Performance program I had been accepted into),I just couldn't figure out how to pay those tuition costs. My son's mother,and my decision to return to her roots, was to give me a chance to be in the "The Twin Cities" going to school, and networking, but Jami was offered a decent job in Duluth. She hooked me up with Darryl Scott.(local blues legend) Who in turn introduced me to the cats from "BOKUFREQUENCY"(www.bokufrequency.info),(myspace.com/bokufrequency) and I was slowly catapulted deep into the nexus of the Twin Ports music scene.
Boku opened it's second show at the Bayfront Festival, where I got a chance to meet Max Dakota.(www.maxdakota.com)and experience "Modern Life". I immediately was entranced, and mesmorized with their sound. All the while not knowing he was actually one of the pioneers of the The Twin Ports Reggae scene. After about a year of chanced encounters,I FINALLY got the call to play with the long time local favorite,in a project called "Flexible Strategies", a dance fusion band performing all of his originals. I can also be seen playing with him on a number of different projects as well; "I AM" feat Max Dakota, and "2one8". I now am also the sub for the drum chair of "SEASON OF THE WITCH" led by Andy Perfetti (seasonofthewitchrocks.com) (myspace.com/seasonofthewitch)full time drummer with ABBEY NORMAL(www.abbeynormalonline.com)led by Dr. Greg Moore,(who is now my educational advisor,and catalyst for me getting into UWS),after being introduced to those two musical directors, by Max as well.
