Enduring knowledge.
Sciency things.
Deep problems that can't be solved in 5 minutes, but
where progress is still possible and might improve the human condition.
Music
I like music but don't remember names of bands, songs, or words.
Prefer baroque or classical.
Movies
Most all movies except horror or very sad movies that portray loss of hope.
I especially like romantic comedies/dramas such as 'The Cutting Edge'
and
'Pride and Prejudice.'
Television
Firefly.
Books
I am mesmerized by all of Alastair Reynolds's sci fi.
Author has Ph.d. in astronomy.
I also like Dan Simmons because the quality
of his sci fi prose compares with that of 'real' literature.
I like Neal Stephenson in spite of his
'catcher in the rye' writing style.
Heroes
It's smarmy but ... Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton ... statesmen with a concern for humanity.
About me:
My name's tony and i don't like bologna.
Photo of me using
1st generation 'laptop' taken circa 1982.
You carried it like a suitcase.
The computer cost about $2k. The screen was 40 cols wide. Used horizontal
scrolling in
hardware to see a full line.
The computer was an Osborne I.
Space-alien photo with glowing eyes (under more pics) courtesy of Ish, the Subterrainian
Combat Philosoper,
otherwise known as 'Nomad' (not only mad but dangerous).
Due to his
extraordinary philosophical powers,
he has the ability to see and record 'me in the essense'
... in case you're
wondering, i'm quietly meditating in the photo.
Nomad's analysis went
wrong somewhere because I'm not a space alien, but
a vampire.
You can read some of
Nomad's other 'probes to the essence'
here.
My feline, space-alien friend got me the virtual puppy dog (below), even though she's
not
keen on the canine persuasion. When I chose fuzzlebums, she
stared at the computer screen
... stalling ... no eye contact ... waiting for me to reconsider (how 'bout a kitten?) ... she
finally consented ... dear friend ♥.
Who I'd like to meet: Girls who like monkeys.
Or ...
aliens from local planets. Tried an intergalactic relationship ... impractical with
sub lightspeed technology, even if I am an immortal vampire (lied about my age. way older than 101).
Or ...
an earth-girl vampire hunter ... she'd make futile attempts to slay me, and get spanked. ;-).

Congress may soon hold a session on preparedness for an EMP attack. We will need to learn about that technology if we are to fend off the sentinels in our subterranean post-apocalyptic future.
