Everything I ever heard......
The Tony Edwards Band has been formed to promote the new album 'Notebook', which is due for release on the Hill House Music Co. label in September 2009.
The band is:
Tony Edwards:
Over 20 years playing all kinds of music, Jazz & Blues, Rock Country & Metal. A former member of Secret Agent, Dirty Trix & Pandora's Box, with hundreds of gigs experience. Tony runs 'Tony's Drum & Guitar Studio', teaching guitar, bass & drums.
Tim Mason:
Over 30 years a drummer, and former member of Secret Agent, and the 'Beagles', Tim has been playing locally for many years as well as being the owner of 'John Savages' music store in Kings Lynn. Tim has also been a drum teacher for nearly 20 years.
Dave Brown:
'Glam' Dave is well known for fronting 'Glam R Us', the East's leading Glam rock tribute, but has a long track record as a songwriter and bassist. Dave is also a bass teacher in Kings Lynn, based at John Savages Music Centre.
"When I first started to write again after what must have been about a 7 year lay off, I didn't know whether I would be taken seriously, or whether I could still write songs at all.
My house was without water, and the electricity was intermittant due to urgent repair work which was being undertaken, so I had few distractions for that first week. I wrote about 10 songs, just me & my old notebook, coffee and the old strat.
I originally approached Tim, we had been playing in a covers band together for a few months, and played him my rough demos. To my surprise, both he and Dave Houghton, the bass player we had been working with, decided that we should change direction and start to concentrate on my songs rather than covers. That was the boost to my confidence which I really needed. We recruited a keyboard player and very quickly the songs started to take shape.
However, in a double blow, I lost both bassist and keyboard player inside a single week. Dave was offered a job he couldn't refuse overseas, the keyboard player had lost confidence in the songs and chose to decline further involvement. I was stuck. Nobody was interested in it, and recruiting for a band with no immediate prospect of making any money was impossible.
Tim & I went on to form "Secret Agent" with Mark Whisler on bass. We had always played a few Rory Gallagher tunes in rehearsal, it just grew naturally. We had no idea that there were other tributes out there, that there were tribute foundations in the Netherlands and Germany. The two years we spent with Secret Agent have been some of the best times, we have made a lot of friends all over Europe and realy enjoyed the playing. In truth though, it has reached a natural end due to logistics (during those two years, Tim & I had both married, and Mark had moved away from Norfolk with his now fiancee), but mainly because we had achieved everything that we could musically. I don't think we could recreate the magic of those great gigs in the Netherlands, Liverpool and Glasgow that had launched us.
At the beginning of this year, I started to think seriously again about the original material. I had reached the conclusion that if I didn't do it now, I might never get around to it. I had written over 40 songs, I needed to record them. Tim put me in touch with Rob Knight and Riko Burrows from Regal House Studios in Wisbech, Cambs. We set up a 4 day recording session, and recorded 10 songs in those 4 days.
At the same time, Dave Brown, an old friend, had heard the demos and expressed an interest in helping to get the live band up and running. We had a lineup. I quickly dropped any keyboards from the album and settled on the tighter sound of a 3 piece band.
The album ws completed at the beginning of August, and is set to be released in early September. We hope to be out in front of audiences by late September 2009.
I would like to thank everybody who has helped us get this far, and we hope to see you all soon.
Best Wishes
Tony Edwards
