Tony Rey is a man of many moods and a dynamo of unbridled passion when performing live. He’s the same when he writes and records and when he walks down the street.
After playing guitar, singing, writing and experimenting on his own from age 13 to 20, he participated in Richland Community College’s respected music program for a few years then spent a couple of more years at the world-renowned University of North Texas. During those years of study he also relentlessly stretched himself as a writer and performer.
Tony has performed an enormous range of styles in a wide variety of settings as both a sideman and frontman. He has also distinguished himself as a unique and outstanding solo performer with his inventive approach to self-accompaniment.
The defining element in Tony Rey’s performing style is his ability to take whatever emotion the music is expressing and play it to the hilt, whether it’s gentle tenderness, high drama, absurd silliness or full-tilt insanity. One fan’s comment to Tony after a typical show one night was, “Man, you’re off the hook!”
These days Tony performs primarily as a solo act, with or without a backing band, delivering his unique performance style to appreciative and enthusiastic audiences. He is also hard at work finishing up his debut album, Fading Into View which features covers of songs by Pink Floyd, John Mayer and others as well as several of his own unique works. Check out his live solo performances of some of these songs in the Alaskan wilderness on YouTube!

Three weeks ago today local bands 222, BeBe Le Strange, White HOT Soul and Tony Rey forged together for an afternoon fundraiser to benefit our Lewisville-based Cleaning For A Reason Foundation (a service providing free house cleaning to women undergoing cancer treatments) and raised $711. Again, a million thank you's to these wonderful musicians who donated their talents for this cause.
The exciting news is that Senator Jane Nelson out of Double Oak (who has been a 15-year client of Buckets 'n Bows Maid Service also owned by the founder of Cleaning For A Reason) will read a proclamation at the State Capitol on April 27, 2009 declaring the week of April 26th through May 2nd as NATIONAL "Cleaning For A Reason Week. "
