Tony Rimbaud is a
member of Brighton-based purveyors of electropoetica This Sound Bureaucracy,
along with Nick Rilke (www.myspace.com/103793715).
Rimbaud provides a backdrop of electronics, samples and effects to Nick Rilke's
treated spoken word, producing improvised soundscapes and songs with a variety
of moods and influences, describing their music as "Agonistic Spoken Word and
effects laced loops and noises".
Rimbaud is also a founder
member of the Spirit of Gravity collective, helping to produce events
and CDs of electronic and experiential music (www.spiritofgravity.co.uk,
www.myspace.com/thespiritofgravity).
As part of the collective,
he has appeared onstage with other members in impromptu and improvised settings,
including Same Actor, Rashamon and minimal impact.
Rimbaud is now producing
solo work under the name I'm Dr Buoyant, extending the techniques
used in these performances in a more focused methodology of abstract electronic
improvisation. He produces short works under this guise on self-produced
8 cm CD-Rs, backed up through live performance. I'm Dr Buoyant
works specifically with loops treated through digital and synthesised effects,
based on samples selected from CDs sourced randomly from charity shops - unlikely
source material producing an organically developed wash of electronic sound.
So far, three CDs have been
produced, including one based on a live set at the Spirit of Gravity in April
2006. Selections from these projects are available as downloads from this MySpace
page, while the full products may be obtained by contacting Tony by e-mail on
info@maphead.org.uk.
I'm Dr Buoyant tracks also
appear on the Spirit of Gravity Film and Festival compilations (see www.myspace.com/thespiritofgravity
for details), with another specially commissioned track appearing on the WM
Recordings compilation "Mystic Moods", available to download for free from www.wmrecordings.com/releases/wm063.htm.
Tony's solo work occasionally
involves projects under different guises such as Not By Radium, a name
under which alternative tracks are produced for Spirit of Gravity compilations.
Not By Radium also works with loops, but explores the impact of these
over time, making it's first live appearance at the Spirit of Gravity in October
2009.
Other recent live highlights
have included Tony performing as part of the Spirit of Gravity Quartet
at the Expo festival in Brighton in 2008, appearing on the same stage
as erstwhile musical collaborator Scanner at the Spirit of Gravity in January
2009, the triumphant return of This Sound Bureaucracy in October, and
a second appearance at the all-night White Nights Festival, also in October.
For details of future events
at the Spirit of Gravity, see
