Too Minutes emerged out of boredom, from a pile of ashes consisting of the fallout of numerous high school nights filled with cheap beer, field parties, and scratched used vinyl punk records. Their hook-laden West Coast influenced punk came from a simple formula: reckless reaction to a mundane suburban life played back at a frenzied pace, a straight ahead old school rock mentality filtered through the eyes of monotonous and sometimes awkward teen angst.
The trio of Chris (vocals/guitar), Sachin (drums) and Jon (bass) hailed from Mamaroneck, a suburb half-hour from everything and nothing. High school friends Chris and Sachin started the band in 1995. A copy of their demo was later stolen by Jon and he was so hot on the tunes that he lied to the others and convinced them he could play bass.
Too Minutes made a name for themselves in the area, recording a few demo tapes and playing various venues through lower New York, while making a mockery of local teen centers, basements and garages. In 1998, the band recorded their full-length CD called “If You Knew, You’d Know,” released by local hippie Grateful Ted who allegedly financed the endeavor with funds from his flourishing drug enterprise. The band continued to headline shows in the New York area, but things had changed – some were focusing on college, others were finishing up puberty. By 2000, Too Minutes was no more.
In 2008, looking for something while on a five-minute break from his 9-to-5, Jon got a idea – “let’s get the band back together.” In true Too Minutes fashion, within two hours the thought went from whim to reality. Too Minutes is back, so make sure to count the silverware.
