15/7/06: TOP HAT frontman Kit Black has just returned from an extended stay in the Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan, where he worked at the Natural Resource Training Institute in Lobesa. During his two months in the country, he was given the opportunity to explore the nation's rich culture and musical heritage; even taking lessons from a skilled artistic jack-of-all-trades named Sangay. Mr. Pixley has purchased a dramyen - a sitar-like folk instrument used in traditional and popular Bhutanese music - and plans to include it in the SAMPLER 1.0 album.

13/2/06: TOP HAT's debut publication, SAMPLER 1.0, is scheduled for a late December '06 release. The demo CD will feature songs spanning all four of TOP HAT's projected albums, along with two never-to-be-released-again bonus tracks. Top Hat, a darkwave/acoustic industrial band from lower New Brunswick, has been in the works since around 1999. While they have yet to formally release an album, bootlegs of a demo entitled Preliminary Sketches are presently circulating around the province. Additionally, they are currently working on four albums, consecutively, to be released in this order:
Scaramouche will be the band's debut opus, a minimalistic blend of pulsating gothic anthems & mournful piano + string ballads.
Medical Kit (for a sick society) will pay homage to the group's techno roots (having started out making shitty trance songs in FruityLoops) that discusses the nature of technology and its influence over human evolution.
Deutschland (where we all go to die) will be a cacophonous affront to good taste, exploring the topics of nihilism, rebellion and violence through the aesthetic lense of neofascism.
Fin Amour, a distinctly more romantic endeavour, will be a classy mix of jazz, swing and bebop, with the overarching theme of true love gone awry.
