Who needs movies when you can be out in the sunshine on Aug. 16 to CELEBRATE! I want you to have such an amazing time amongst the incredible community and business district where I live. We like to call it Eastside Tacoma Pride. If you don't know, you better ask somebody!

About me: I'm the 2008 Top of Tacoma McKinley Street Festival, and I'm here to make sure you'll be at our funky and fun throw down on Aug. 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. right in the heart of the McKinley Hill Business District.
Let me say that again, a little louder this time: Aug. 16 FROM 11 A.M. TO 6 P.M. YAHOO!!!!
How do you get to the McKinley Business District? Take I-5 to until you get to the Tacoma Dome and take the Highway 7, Pacific Avenue exit. Take the 38th Street East (NOT West, silly) exit off of Highway 7. Take a left onto McKinley Avenue, go a couple of blocks and presto, there's our festival! Park where you can and let the playing begin!
So much has happened in our business district since my shin dig last year! The Top of Tacoma Bar and Cafe has opened and is pumpin' all kinds of beves and treats. Neighborhood Coffee and Espresso has opened, too, and they're slingin' the all the caffinated coziness I could ever want. Hair Artz is making each and every one of us beautiful. Even better, the facades of several of the businesses in our district just got a face lift with a shiny new paint job. Yea!
Of course, our businesses that have stood the test of time are still bringing smiles to people's faces, including Fergie's, McKinley Hill Chiropractic, Tacqueria El Antojo, Engine House Coffee, Pogo Real Estate Development and McKinley Clips.
On the community development side, we're anxiously awaiting a positive vote from the Washington State Liquor Control Board to create an Alcohol Impact Area, which would stop the sale of harmful, high octane alcohol in our hood. Our area was designated as a City of Tacoma Mixed Use Center. We also just scored our very own City of Tacoma Community Based Services Area, www.cityoftacoma.org/cbs! And! Our community members have continued to rise up and band together, and we're showing the world that crime will not reside on our Eastside!!!
It goes without saying that things are really changing here on the Top of Tacoma, and this festival will be your chance to find out what the McKinley BUZZ is all about!!

This year's function will be unlike any other street festival you've seen.....out of me, or anywhere for that matter. These year my festival will be known as The Heart of the Hill. Heart is what I've got, and a hill, too.
Here's the lowdown on what's happenin'!
Soon to become everybody's favorite neighborhood street festival, this year I will feature the one, the ONLY, Animalocity Pet Parade!!! This awesome parade consisting of pets of all shapes and sizes is a fundraiser for the Dugan Foundation, a group that you should pay attention to. Go to www.duganfoundation.org for more information. And what better way to pay attention than by showing up to see me and all of those crazy pets and owners on Aug. 16. Dress up, bring a pet, and create a float for our parade. No registration is necessary. Just show up the day of to strut your stuff
For those who don't know, Aug. 16 is Madonna's birthday (it's her 50th!!!), and that's precisely why we'll be hosting a Madonna look alike contest. We're hoping to get entries from all eras of Madonna's career. We'll even be giving prizes for People's Choice Madonna and Most Horrific Madonna. Holiday, celebrate!!!!
I'll also have two, count 'em, TWO stages this year and other entertainment that will encompass six blocks along McKinley Avenue. I'll be rockin' music and more.

In addition, I'll be featuring Tacoma Christian Center’s “Land of OZ” children’s carnival and school supply giveaway, which is expecting to serve over 1,000 very important children!
We know you need food, and the Tacoma Christian Center will be selling BBQ chicken, hamburgers, ribs, hot dogs, hot links, chips, pop, shortcake, peach cobbler and MORE. YUM!
