Introducing NINA - the phenomenal lovechild of four London musicians with an already substantial and dedicated fanbase, growing with each of their sold-out gigs. The product of a shared musical obsession and love for live sets in their native North-West London, Rashid, Jono, Kath and Dave formed NINA in 2005. Notching up an impressive 24 years of performances between them, music runs in their blood these are no novices. After a humble birth amongst acoustic guitars, raw vocals and impromptu percussion on anything that happened to be in the room at the time, Ninas sound became a fully developed rock-pop repertoire with great ambition.
Under the direction of Rashid Alami, (lead vocals/songwriter) the band collaborated to build upon the foundations of songs written by Rashid and create the distinctive NINA sound. Their influences include diverse pop and rock legends such as The Police, Peter Gabriel, Nina Simone (inspiring the name of the outfit), Foo Fighters, and Skunk Anansie. Here, amidst the Green Day clones and Libertine dreamers that are making up the underground band culture of the UK, you have now found a refreshing band with a unique sound that quite frankly, dont sound like anyone else.
The buzz on Nina has grown after gigging around North London and playing venues such as The Fly, The Bull and Gate, Finals of the Emergenza battle of the bands at The Mean Fiddler, West One Four and Camden Underworld. Original tracks such as Its Time and The Process have become sing-along firm favourites with their fanbase, prompting after-show sales of their self-produced EP, Loop to sell out faster than they could burn them! With interest for support slots with established UK bands on the agenda, NINA hope to cement their place on the London music scene and become one of the new acts on the scene for 2007.
