In 2001 at 2001 Cross Place, Regina, Saskatchewan, something called TopWise began. Three prarie boys from Balgonie, Saskatchewan were feeding on the need to express ideas and life experiences in musical form. Steve Best and Greg Ochitwa began writing, producing beats and recording tracks of hip-hop genre, in their basement studio space. Before long, the duo (known as TopWise) began performing local live shows and released a full length album called Brainsmart in the spring of 2003. Apart from writing and creating music, the group has also brought hip-hop to the community, putting on shows featuring various well known Canadian hip-hop artists. (see show list)
In 2004, after years around Canada and abroad creating and composing her own music, Greg's sister Nysa returned to Regina. Bringing her unique vocal sound, Nysa was welcomed into the group, giving TopWise a whole new dynamic. In 2004-2005, Topwise has reached an equilibruim of style and character among it's group members. Nearing the completion of their second full length album (to be pressed by July 2007), TopWise has embraced a formidable growth. The group has been collaborating and working with an array of local artists, while continuing to develop and master their own original sound.
Topwise will be touring Western Canada (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba) over the month of May 2005, and are aiming to spend the rest of the summer promoting thier new disc and playing at various festivals and events across the province.
