Tora Brava, singer, artist and performer extraordinaire, is creative exuberance bringing the ultimate medicine for a new age. Tora Brava is Tora Kim is also Kim Hae Na, who was born singing in Seoul, South Korea, then on to Panama City, Panama, Queens, New York, until the upbringing in the northern suburbs of New Jersey (of HBO-Sopranos fame). There is the family, her mother a pianist and her father an independent businessman, who moved around quite a bit back when Tora grew up telling stories and acting out to entertain her little brother and herself, between classical piano, viola and ballet lessons. Julie Andrews is her hero to this day.
There was Paris, France, where a 15 year-old Tora studied painting and fashion at Parsons School of Design and fell in love with life. There was the local church Youth Group choir where she sang and directed, and eventually Tora met Pope John Paul in Denver and in Rome, Italy. There was university in New York City, Barnard College where she received a scholarship and studied Sociology and Studio Art. She dropped out to attend the Gallatin School at New York University where she discovered Performance Art as a discipline and a new outlet of expression. This led her to pen and perform her own art performance extravaganzas from Surf Reality to the Public Theater, sharing the stage with performance art legends such as Karen Finley.
Tora Brava had already started her first band when she was 16, and to this day has released several CDs with her band Xtatika, including her debut album Tongue Bath on John Zorn's Tzadik label. The album was critically well-received. So far Tora has performed in Europe, Asia, Mexico as well as the USA, with a primer visit to Africa in 2007 where she wrote 3 songs "from the labyrinth". She has opened for artists such as Sean Lennon and Lesbians on Ecstacy, and her performances usually elicit intense surprise and positive awe-struck reaction from audiences.
Since she went solo in 2007, Tora's self-penned songs are best described as emotive electronic dance rock and show her influenced by Kate Bush, Michael Jackson, Nine Inch Nails and Judy Garland. In music and performance, it's an edgy but very danceable brand of romanticism that keeps her fans coming back for more.
Tora is also a certified scuba diver intent on saving the planet, a lover of food, wine and fashion, and movies with friends. Tora is an award-winning writer of prose and memoir, and keeps a blog.
" A Feeling" "I have a feeling that they are laughing at us a lot Thinking we know it all on our grain of sand We're so damned small I have a feeling, that's all
We must be the show from planet zero Reserved for stubborn asses And wanna be Nero's
Those who choose to hide their heads instead of plan A better world For their fellow man
Until you care We won't care I just have a feeling they're saying that Somewhere
They still haven't admitted they're in way over their heads I just have a feeling Somewhere that's being said
Anyway, what would I know? I'm just a stubborn ass Who refuses to surrender hope"

Would you send a kiss to save the world To keep someone, maybe you, from dying in it?
Would you send a kiss To save your favorite girl?
What would you kiss that you would put on this list?
We all think we know what we are fighting for Until something hurts us Then generations later Still asking ourselves Was it worth it Seem to go through the same thing We can wake up from a bad dream With screams Or when we reach for a kiss For that we open our eyes And say I want more of this And we go through that day Longing for that kiss Could you imagine saving the world With a simple kiss list?
I kiss my pen And it bleeds So that maybe We wont be leaves Blown away In a win-less storm
I kiss my friend's bliss And they say they love me Year after year of this Loyalty Inspired by spirit kiss
Would you send a kiss to save your favorite video game?
You name What would make you aim your lips And send a kiss
Hendrix kissed the sky Would you kiss the child in you You hide the cries And truly say I'll be OK Today I'll make myself my own baby And kiss me bliss 'Til no pain can stay
And once I'm entrenched In the practice of this I'll see clearly What I love And put that on my kiss list
I once blew a kiss to hate And watched hate become confused And wait
What is on your wish list? That you consent to bliss kiss? A kiss for your business? For your dreams? For your favorite sports team? Sports hero? Your favorite car? I'm blowing you a bliss kiss So maybe you'll put something On your wish list Hoping maybe we'll build up enough bliss To offset all war With a simple kiss
Call me a fool But some things are worth writing for
