ABOUT TORI BAXLEY
With a powerhouse voice, sugar-and-spice stage presence and a knack for getting inside a lyric, Tori Baxley is a young woman for whom the word spunky was most likely invented. With lyrics like she writes, it’s clear that wishy-washy people and opinions need not apply. “I want my music to be fun and sassy.” declares Baxley. “I don’t want to sing young girl, lovey-dovey pigtails music. I like the fun, kickin’ country blues stuff. I want my music to sound like it was recorded in the back woods of Muscle Shoals, Alabama! I like songs that people can relate to and also get a sense of my quirky personality - and I am a complete goofball.” Maybe so, but she’s a goofball with some serious pipes and aspirations. Her influences are very rounded including, international star, Beth Hart to Tina Turner to Lyle Lovett.
Between the ages of 8 and 14, Baxley had opened up shows all over the tri-state area of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia for the likes of Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Trick Pony, George Jones, Tracy Lawrence, Toby Keith, Darryl Worley and many more. At the time, she was singing on-stage with nothing but a microphone and tracks to a few covers and her original songs! Eventually Baxley was signed to an independent label in Enterprise, Alabama. That record was heard by the powers-that-be in Music City. After seven live auditions at seven different record labels, Baxley was signed to Dreamworks Records. “I was signed by James Stroud himself,” says Baxley, “and he wanted to produce the entire record! It was a fascinating project to be apart of.” Stroud is a legendary musician/producer who also, at the time, was the Co-Chairman of Universal Music Group Nashville, which includes Dreamworks Records. Unfortunately, Tori was not able to completely fulfill her dream with Dreamworks. After a merger with Universal Records, Dreamworks was no more. “Back to square one,” Baxley proclaims, “but what would the music business be without all the twists and turns that make an artist the artist they want to be?”
Over the past two years, Baxley has been traveling her local streets again and finding herself as a better songwriter and musician. She’s been recording locally and in Nashville with many talented people and producers. Tori Baxley is a refreshing reminder that the genuine artist is not yet an extinct species!
