Being a nerd I read a lot of graphic novels (o.k. comic books). Check out Luna Brothers "Girls". Also the "Walking Dead" by Robert Kirkman, "DMZ" by Brian Wood and "Planetary" by Warren Ellis. For pure Fan boy fun there is no better than Joss Whedon's "Astonishing X-men". And it mandatory to buy anything by Allen Moore, Dave Gibbens, Neil Gaiman and Frank Miller.
