Passionate, precise and consistent are just three words that can be used to sum up East Londoner, Tor. Homegrown UK talent, Tor is flipping the rap game on its head with her melodic flow and fiery feminine ways. And that’s no hype talk.
You may have read about, or been lucky enough to witness Tor at the Urban Classics event, a one-off show which saw her rapping along with the BBC Concert Orchestra for what was described by the press as 'a night of groundbreaking, live, classical, grime.' Perhaps you’ve recognized her vocals from the live performance at the Olympics 2012 winner’s announcement in Trafalgar Square viewed by one billion people.
Having since teamed up with UK super producer, DJ Mentat (Skinny Man/ Roots Manuva) Tor is confident she's on her way to breaking from the confines of the tight-knit UK hip hop underground where she's already made her mark. Supporters include Zane Lowe (Radio 1), Mary Ann Hobbs, Rodney P & Skitz, Dynamite MC (Kiss), Dan Greenpeace (XFM), DJ MK (Kiss), and MP Steven Hepburn.
She's already appeared on Bugz In The Attic’s ‘Move Aside’ and Ms Dynamite’s ‘When I Fall In Love’. Theres also collaborations with Sway, Lowkey, Seanie T (Blacknificent 7), Skibadee, Faith SFX, Skinnyman, Klashnekoff, Mpho Skeef and ARP, along with remixes, including Soundbwoy Ent’s Top 20 hit, ‘Never Wanna Say’. She's worked with producers including Wonder (Dizzee Rascal/Sway), Fusion (Estelle), Destruction (Adam F) and Rashad Smith (Biggie/Erykah Badu/Nas). Rashad and Tor collaborated on 'Rapshow' which was also performed With The BBC orchestra receiving much acclaim and being called by the Evening Standard “The best track of the evening”. She features on Japanese hit ‘Time Of Reflect’ produced by Nomak’s for his on hugely successful LP ‘Calm’. You can also hear her roar vocals on Sony Playstations 'Grand Tourismo 5' released in March 2008
Releasing her debut single, 'Strivin' in September 2006, It Boasted three mixes, including one that features Klashnekoff and another that features Lowkey. 'Back On The Endz', released in July 2007 was the same time that she made her first apperance at Glastonbury on the 'BBC Introducing' stage.
Free download ‘Beatz in The Capital’ consists of tracks made past and present. Soon following is the compliation ‘Beatz International’ which consists of tracks produced and vocaled by artists from all over the world. While away, Tor performed with Roni size and dynamite MC, hosted on RBMA radio and even found time to record a track with Phonte (Little Brother) and Oddisse (Jazzy Jeff’s Magnificent- ‘Music Lounge’).
‘Beatz International’ is to be released in Japan June 13th 2008 and will follow on in the UK in July. Both releases introduce Tor to the world and show her many sides before her LP drops for ya'll...
