Books
Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series provided many of the values I still have in my life. I started reading the series in 8th grade, and twelve books later, it's finally coming to a close.
David and Leigh Eddings' The Belgariad, The Mallorean, and Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress also imprinted heavily upon my young mind. I read them slightly out of sequence, however. I began with Belgarath the Sorcerer. Almost 1000 pages. In 8th grade. Two things impressed me very strongly. First, their writing style is superb. Secondly, when you can write a novel, well, that tells one persons story over several millenia , you know you're accomplished writer. To tell the similar story from another character's perspective, with their own events added in is just super-human. To go off and write a third millenia-long story, from a completely different character in a completely different world, with none of the detail lost, truly proves mastery of the epic genre. In all honesty, whether you like fantasy or not, I strongly suggest you read Belgarath the Sorcerer. It will truly alter your perspective of the world, and time.
